A while ago there was a thread stating how you would have to download the cars to beat the game. This isn't entirely true.

There will be two versions released. The Premium and the Classic. Premium will only have 30 cars and a few tracks but the quality will be as high as they can make it. Classic will have 750 cars and 51 tracks, but the visual quality will be sacrificed a bit. Physics and gameplay wont change between the two versions, but they will both be much better than the original.

The reason for charging for the downloads you will have for the premium version is that each car model takes 6 months to make. 10s of thousands of polygons are used. You're getting cars that are made by people who worked their asses off to give you the most realistic models possible. Just saving all 750 cars with that level of detail could probably take more than a few blu-ray disks. Still, it sucks to know that if you want good quality AND everything, you'll have to pay more money than the system is worth.

Source.

I really do not see that happening.

As far as this goes, I understand that they are "premium designs", but I still think that selling in-game components is down right crappy.

Six months to make one car?  No way.  Not only does that just sound far fetched, that would mean to model every one of the 750 cars, it would take 4300 months or 179.6 years.

4500 months or 375 years by saying that they make only one car every six months.

Where in the world did you get 4300 and 179.6?

Damn it.  I'm tired.  I divided it by 24 for some idiotic reason.  Thanks for catching that.

I got the 4300 by multiplying in my head.  Maybe not such a good idea.

I'm sure there is more than one car being worked on at any one time. Still... damn.

Unless you say that you start with 30 so that means there will be only 720 cars which is 4320 months or 360 years.

Fine then.  Say they have a team of 50 people working on it.  It would still take 90 months which is 7.5 years.

What are you talking about?  We are discussing how long it would take to model all the cars?  Yes, the premium does start with 30 cars, but that is still 30 cars they had to model, thus they aren't exempt from the six month period.

I was right and I didn't even know it.

"Gran Turismo HD Premium will feature 30 cars and two tracks, all of which have been modeled from the ground at a level of visual fidelity that simply hasn't been approached in the game before."

define best.

as far as who is going to be on top of the market, the dude at gamestop said it best, "We will sell more Wii's, but will make more money on the PS3."

to me, being on top of the market would be getting your product out there.
