Want to get the BT apex barrel system. I know this is an old thread and the flatline won the poll, but I don’t care, I want the apex. What I want to know now about the apex is: is it any better at accuracy then the flatline? Am well aware that accuracy and distance do not go hand in hand. My question stems more to: is the apex more accurate? And how accurate is it at different distances. Has anyone done any sort of comparisons of this nature? I have done research on the topic but was unable to find anything on this forum. If there is a posting regarding this, please direct me. Thank you.

I've heard rumors that alot of specops guys ditched their flatlines in favor of the apex.  Also another forumer here told me that he felt that the apex is more accurate.  I'm getting an apex this winter.

I really can't tell you which is more accurate "at distance". From my personal experiences, neither is very accurate at their max capable range.

I currently prefer the Apex system, for several reasons:
1. It seems less picky on paint. For the Flatline to perform well, I needed small bore paint. The Apex seems to eat a wider variety.
2. The ability to adjust. If I have time (a lull spot in the game), I can adjust the Apex to create a balance between range and accuracy. In other words, I found I could tweak it so that the accuracy was still good... while retaining a slight range advantage. Maxing out the range resulted in poor accuracy for me. I do not bother with messing with the curved shots... I prefer to flank someone over trying to get the balls to curve.
3. The ability to "turn off". The fact that it is also a "straight barrel" was appealing to me. Paint/accuracy issues were no longer worrisome.
4. The ability to transfer the Apex unit to a different barrel. I currently have the Apex on a J&J Ceramic with the help of a UMS adapter. Because I have J&Js for almost all of my gun-types, this also means I can transfer the Apex to different guns. I personally feel the addition of the J&J improved accuracy slightly.
5. The fact that it is still essentially a straight barrel... means if you do chop/break a ball... it is easier to clean. Any straight shot or pull thru squeegie will do the job. With the rough-inner finish of the Flatline, it was hard for me to field-clean the barrel.

One con of the Apex, is that apparently with the weather getting cold... the rubber ramp may become brittle.   A friend had his ramp break.

Overall... the Flatline is still an excellent system, you wouldn't go wrong with either choice. I simply like the added flexibility of the Apex.

yeah

both at max distance are crap accuracy. though the apex has one advantage, you can change it for more accuracy.

apex at lv 6/8 (where i keep it) has at least 50' more range than a flatline and i can hit what i point at almost all the time in 1-2 shots. this is quite amazing.

honestly i did this test mostly through civil war style games.

i don't see how the tongue could be become brittle but... it did come from shorty

if you want to know anything else just ask

Just know that the apex doesnt work as well with curves as advertised on its website.  On the website it has a little graphic of the ball going fairly straight then suddenly curving a great amount.  It has more of a rainbow effect and you need to shoot wide to have any hope  curving it enough to get someone behind a tree just right.  It is still a great system, and it is better than the flatline in the sence of being able to adjust it.

I have read that the apex can shot to around 300 feet. The thing is I live in South Africa and we don’t play woodsball here. We play bushball and very rarely will you have a clear path to someone 300 feet away. So shooting 300 feet will merely be suppressive fire. What I really need to know is whether the apex is accurate at 150 feet or more? At what distance do you start to lose the accuracy to hit someone with the first or second shot?

isin't woodsball the same as bushball?

150 feet you will be dead on. just go to a field one day and figure out what the best setting is for 150 feet. it will be amazingly accurate frm there.

with the apex as well as all barrels, the less range, the more accurate.

i'd say you start to lose alot of accuracy at about 200-240 feet... that's with decent paint and not freezing cold out.

^dude you don't know anything.  There's a ton of thick reeds and exotic vegitation in Africa.  Don't you watch tv?  Besides there's like lions and stuff too.

In all seriousness, if you're gunning at close range due to an extreme amount of foliage just use a regular barrel.

I once played paintball in upstate New York. There by sleepy hollow and the woods had many tall trees and few shrubs. South African bushveld vegetation consists mainly of bush and shrubs and a lot of tall undergrowth. The few trees that do exist are mostly low hanging types. Very few indigenous trees are tall.

One of the main reasons why I’m considering the apex is because I read in one of the posts that because of the balls trajectory it tends to fly through small twigs and leafs easier then a normal barrel. This would definitely improve my game.

And no, lions aren’t a problem. Leave them alone and they leave you alone.

I don't know man.  You're really trying to split hairs here as far as shooting through brush.  I think your best bet for cutting brush is a good ball like Marballizer. Old Marballizers cut through brush real good too.  You can actually cut shooting lanes with the stuff.

do you ever outfit a monkey with really cool gear and then he kicks your butt in a good game of paintball?

No, it doesn't shoot "through" leaves and twigs, but the flat trajectory allows you to shoot through holes in the vegetation. A standard barrel has an arcing trajectory making it difficult to shoot under a limb where you may have an opening. The Apex offers a line of sight trajectory so if you can see the opponent through a hole in the vegetation you can shoot through that hole.

Havent tried either, but I will say go with the flatline just to mess with carl . But the main point of my post is that if you get a JnJ, it should be quieter than a flatline. You can also port(drill holes in) the apex tip to make it quieter(Ive seen it done anyway, dont know if it works).

hah noice

yeah just for you i'd say j&J ceramic

apex might be able to shoot through cracks in the bush but then you have to aim through the crack in the bush, a very hard task, Are you going to get any extra kills? chances are no. the trick to hitting people through trees and such is to fire a lot of shots. the more you fire, the greater chance of hitting someone.

with the money you save from going with the j&j, you can buy a firepower upgrade like an egrip.

heres a link because i'm not sure what gun you have:

http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/S tore/en/-/USD/BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=pLZcuz9FnldcNHoL4NmcEz XjrMc44eYP7P4=?CategoryName=paintball-paintball-barrels-j--j -precision-barrels-j--j-ceramic-barrels

i would go with a 14" just so you have a bit of extra length to stick through trees or bushes.

or you could test out the new kevlar barrel from special ops for the forum

http://www.specialopspaintball.com/shop/category.asp?CAT=110 212&PAGE=ALL

like before if you need to know more, just ask

I have an A5 and my current setup is a simple one. Efficiency and simplicity is my ethos.

All I have on is a lapco 8’’ barrel and the elongated front grip with a 12oz CO2 canister. I use this approach because of its manoeuvrability for flanking and rushing the opponent. A sort of small assault rifle. The benefit of the A5 is that by changing a few parts you can get a completely different rifle. With this in mind, as an alternative, I’m going to purchase the apex barrel, an expansion chamber, a flat front grip, an e-grip and a 20oz CO2 canister. Going for a BAR type machine gun for base defence and trench fighting. Do you agree? Would you add anything different to this setup?

Does the standard apex barrel fit an A5 without any adaption kit? The length of the apex is apparently 10.5’’. Does that include the tip? Shorty mentioned the ability to ‘turn off’. Does that mean turn off the apex and under what circumstances would you do that?
