Career Choices

So im in a bind on what i want to do in the way of a career. I know i want nothing to do with any office im more into mechanics i am really considering diesel and big trucks tractros stuff like that because ive grown up around it. Also ive recently gotten really interested into planes and aviation especially helicoptors, so ive narrowed it down to im either gonna go to college for diesel or aviation mechanics, but im also considering just joining the airforce after i get out of school and maybe get some scholorships and expeirience. Any suggestions?

Just a heads up, Freightliner is paying full tuition for diesel mechanics for thier service operations. 2 year vocational school while emplyed then full time employ at thier larger service/sales centers across america. Lincoln is offering a $5000.00 sign on bonus and $26.75 an hour, If i were young and agile again know what I would be doing.

yea i would be in diesel for the money and im alright with it but im not sure about the avitation money and i love it lol and im gettin ready to go into my shcools tech

defiantly go into the military. get in a mechanic field. you'll get plenty of on the job training, great training schools and experience. you'll learn a lot. after a 4 year contract with active duty, go into the civilian world. you'll dominate it. you'll be so good at taking initiative and working under pressure and having people tell you what to do you'll have no problem moving up fast. you'll also have great leadership skills. i highly recommend it. i cant tell you which branch to join, i'd recommend Marines. but thats because I am one. if you wanted a guarantee of working on a specific vehicle Marines may not be the best option because they would give you a field of mechanics. then put you somewhere in that field. where as other branches could probably tell you what vehicles you'll work on. good luck!

agreed, except for the marine part....not a shot at the marines but i think you would be better off in the air force for the sole reason that you could go into either diesel for the trucks or jet engines with the planes....either one would be really good after doing 4 years like kristofer said

go to college on an rotc scholarship.  youll go into the AF making around 40k/year as a 2LT.  after 4 years, you can be a CPT and make around 60k

My uncle is a train engineer for CSX. He loves it, and it's good pay too. The only downside is that he doesn't have a set schedule, and is essentially on call all the time.

I am a big train hobby person and often talk to the crews at the local ma/pa resteraunt. There is a BNSF bunk house here in Lincoln for train crews off shift. Thier life is not one I care to live. Same DOT rules basically as trucking, but you never know where your next run will take you, or when you will get home, but still on-call. Good money, but the sacrifice of home, is it worth it?

seriously guy, look into WyoTech.  You graduate in 9months and its probably one of thee best schools for Mechanics.
