    Posted: 12 November 2006 at 5:51pm
Ok, so recently a bunch of my friends decided we were all gonna start going paintballing.  I currently have an old beat up Model 98 with a Flatine Barrel that I bought off a friend back in 2002.  I mainly used it to mess around with (shoot up houses, cars, trees, etc).  But now I'm actually getting into competively and am looking for a new gun, my Model 98 likes to chop balls pretty bad.  I think we will be mainly using the woods to compete in.  I can't decide between a Custom Pro ACT or an A-5.  And I was also wondering if my Flatine on my Model 98 will work with either of those or should I get another type of barrel because I don't think having a long distance barrel like the flatine will give me an advantage in the woods.  Plus I've been reading that the Flatline breaks balls and curves, which I've already experienced both of those.

ok, first of all, dont shoot houses and trees, it gives all of paintball a bad name.

secondly, flatlines (at least in my experience) for 98's are horrible barrels. granted, you can shoot farther, but youd have a hard time hitting anything more than 15 yards away.

i'd say either a 98 custom or A-5. The A-5 is faster, but it costs more. 98's are good guns. It all depends on your budget.

By the way...have fun playing!!

The A-5 shoots exactly the same as the 98.  The firing mechanism is exactly the same.  The A-5 has plenty of other advantages, but the fundamental operation is identical.

If you are breaking balls, it is most likely because you are shooting faster than your hopper can feed.  An A-5 will fix that, since it comes with a Cyclone, but you could also just get a faster hopper and stick with the gun you have.

As to the Flatline - it's a love/hate.  But the main advantage in the woods of the Flatline isn't the disance - it's the flat trajectory.  You can shoot through and under things that others cannot.

My suggestion - unless you really want an A-5, buy a faster hopper.  Then you can keep the hopper and upgrade the gun later if you want.

I'd even suggest cleaning out your gun. take it apart, grease it all up, and put it back together. drop the flatline and get another barrel, and maybe a force feed hopper. if you have money, a halo b works wonders. if not, any force feed does the job.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to own a paintball gun.

I second that...

Look into an A5 and LAPCO Bigshot.

Aye

But anyway, I would only get a JnJ if you go to firlds where medium-small bore paint is being used. Stay away from a J&J if you use cheap paint.

Sorry to all of those who I upset by misusing a paintball gun.  That was almost 6 years ago when I was in highschool.  You mean none of you caused trouble and had fun when you were young and immature.  Anyway, I've matured and have come to respect the sport of paintball which is why I'm trying to learn more about it and would like to compete against others.

I recently purchased a Custom Pro with an expansion chamber.  I ordered an Apex Barrel to go with it and I might get a second barrel.  I have yet to receive these products from the sites I ordered from.  Has anyone ordered from TippmannPros.com?  It has been a week and my order hasn't been shipped and it didn't say anything was back ordered and they didn't reply to my email.  Has anyone else had problems with this site?  Other sites I ordered from the parts were shipped the same day.
