New, Used A-5 Preventive Maintenance

I am fairly new to paintball. I have owend a 98 c a very long time ago and sold it( to young to care) Now I felt more interest on the game and Bought a used A-5 and would like to get any info or tips on what to do to "re-fresh" the gun.

I have gone through the post and learned a lot about the gun but nothig about preventive maintenace like O rings and springs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what i would do since it is used is:

1.open the thing up and wipe everything down so its dry.

2.replace all o-rings.

3.check for worn or damaged parts.

4.lube the whole thing up. (o-rings,reciever,bolt,screws, cyclone feed parts, tank adapter, trigger assembly..ect)

5.put you gun back togeather.

6.check all parts on the outside (air lines, cyclone feed, and trigger assembly.

7. you could do all of the above^ or-take it to a paintball shop.

 

thing you will need to maintain your gun

-o-rings

-paintball gun oil

-thread lock

-thread tape

-wrench set for gun screws

.....

Thx. I actually never serviced my 98 when I had it so I am not really sure on how to lube the gun. I guess buying the deluxe parts kit for the A-5 is a good idea, huh? ha ha. I bought the gun for $120 with a retractable stock and it looks in good shape.

I have read here something about putting oil somewhere and fire the gun(without paint) to distribute the oil on the gun. Can someone explain that please?

basicly instead of opening up the gun and lubing it by hand, some just put a drop or two of air tool lube into where you screw in the Co2 tank. if you do this and then actually put in the Co2 and fire the gun a couple times, the lube will get shot through the internal workings of the marker as it cycles.

so basicly, drop some paintball gun friendly lube in the ASA (Air Sourch Adapter) where the Co2 goes, then fire the gun a couple times.

make sure any lube you use if going to be good for your marker, every once in a while I see new people throw stuff like WD40 in their marker and end up ruining it until they take the whole thing apart and clean it all out.

Empire makes decent enough products, I'm sure it's just gold-cup marker oil in a different package. So yeah, it'll be fine.

One thing to remember when doing the asa-lube trick, take your barrel off when you dry-fire the marker. You don't want oil getting down the barrel as it gives you the same inaccuracy problems that paint or water down the barrel do. If you do get oil down the barrel, use some Dawn dish soap and a bottle brush (soft bristle) to clean it out. The Gas-N-Lube trick is what most fields use on a daily basis to keep their markers in working condition.

Another thing i was wondering is why people change their bolts?

I se several of them on ebay and some of the brands are rufus dawg, JCS, Start fire, super fly.

There are some claims out there that certain bolts allow the marker to fire more accurately due to the even distribution of air-flow around the ball versus the standard center-fire style of bolt that comes stock. I have a pico star-fire bolt in my old pro-lite and I never saw any significant difference in the accuracy of my marker. For me, a different bolt is mainly aesthetic. Until you get into markers where the bolt is the only moving part in the marker and has serious effects on the operation of the marker (Matrix markers for example) there isn't much of a performance bonus from changing out the bolt.

this is a good thing to do but not INSTEAD of opening the marker, doing what he described will help your valve assembly, it will do nothing for the bolt or hammer...and an important thing that many people leave out, tho tallen said it, when you put oil in your ASA and fire..TAKE OFF THE BARREL, you don't wanna have any oil in the barrel, you should still take it apart and clean off the hammer, bolt, connecting rod etc and oil their o-rings

i use hoppes #9 its a gun oil that is safe for pbguns, i believe tippmann recommends it, if not, there are lots of paintball specific lubes, angel love juice....the empire you have is fine, in the future you basically just have to avoid anything that is petroleum based because your gun has plastic and rubber and urethane parts

I will open up the gun since I bought it used and who knows what kind of maintenance was done to it, if any.

To my understanding all I need is the oil to lube it up and I will use some on the 0-rings and that is it. Am I correct?

i dont own an A-5 to look at this second, but you wanna clean off and then oil:

- front bolt & o-ring
- hammer (rear bolt) & o-ring
- 2 drops in the ASA, fire without barrel (into a rag or something)

- i always clean off the connecting rod between the hammer and bolt, this is an area where metal is directly in contact with moving metal, so it will become dirty, i clean it and rub some oil into it, very little

thats pretty much it, tippmanns are essentially invincible, so it doesnt take much

I wont be able to get out to my pro shop for awhile, are these methods safe with the pnumatic oil you get witht a new A5 or is that petro-based oil?

the oil you get with a new a5 is perfect. i used to use 3-in-1 by recommendation from a pro-shop when i first started. i dont trust that tech anymore . while it didnt really damage anything, it didn't coat anything either, and basically turned into sludge after each day of play. so it would work great in the morning, but by afternoon my velocity would be unusably low. so every day i had to open my marker, clean everything thoroughly, and reoil it. once i switched over to proper marker oil (what came with the marker) everything worked better.
but ive also used Hoppes #9 to great effect.
