my high school doesnt weight gpa for honors/ap classes.  I want to figure out what my gpa on a 4.0 scale would be if it were weighted.  how do i do that?  just count b's as a's and c's as b's?  what do a's count as?

Our school weighs grades like that (B = A, etc) for AP classes, but its different for many schools.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Generally:
  • A = 4
  • B = 3
  • C = 2
  • D = 1
  • F = 0
Add up the numerical value of your grades and divide by the number of classes.

(Most school systems use 9th grade as the starting point for this, so you will have to go back a ways. Or, maybe not, depending upon your grade.)

If your normal gpa is done on a 4.0 scale, you usually use a 5.0 scale for weighing grades.
My school assumes
A=4
B=3
C=2
D=1
For regular classes.
For honours classes, you multiply the number by 1.125. So an A in an honours class would be 4 X 1.125 = 4.5

For AP classes, you multiply the number by 1.5
So an A in an Ap class is 4 X 1.5 = 6

So you do that for each class, add them all up, and divide by how many classes you have.

My grades would be
AP US  - 4 X 1.5 = 6
Spanish 3 H - 1.125 X 3 = 3.375
Algebra 2 - 4 X 1 = 4
Debate 3 H - 4 X 1.125 = 4.5
English 2 H - 4 X 1.125 = 4.5
Biology H - 3 X 1.125 = 3.375
Health - 4 X 1 = 4

29.75 / 7 = 4.25 GPA

Sorry, misunderstood the question. One thing to keep in mind is that what is more important than how a specific high school weights the gpa is if the college in question (applied to) accepts weighted gpas, works off of raw data, or has its own system.

My GPA is the result of my lack of attendence to class, or doing my work... ever.

And the sig is only 2% serious.

I thought weighting also had to do with removing some of the classes, like gym or shop. Maybe I'm thinking of something else, but there are many ways to do it.

I just found out today that the University is changing their class sign-up procedures so that the only people eligible to register for more than one semester at time are people with a 3.5+ GPA, or Athletes.

I have a 3.8, I am fine, but it still perturbs me that Athletes get included in the list just because. This is a University, not a sports center. Classes and class registration should be based on academic standing, and not on how far you can throw and damn ball.

When I read the story I was pissed and hoped somebody wrote something about it...Then I realized I am a Journalism major, and I started typing.

I got a 3.3 and I'm really happy.  I usually get poor grades, so having all A's and B's is a real treat.

I doubt it has anything to do with their athleticism directly, and more with the fact that the athletes are probably there on scholarship, which means they are much less likely to transfer.

at my school, ap is +1 letter grade. So if you got a C in a wieght 5 class(AP) then it's like a B in a weight 2 class(a class like..gym). An honors class is + a minus or plus. So a B+ in a 4 weight(honors) then it is equal to an A- in a weight 2. Kind of confusing, but yea..
