Someone told me that I can put an apex barrell on my Tippmann X7. Is this true?

Sure is!
Get the A5 threaded one and you're good to go.

I have not recieved my x7 yet but I have heard that the shroud can inerfear with some barrels.  It is supposed to show today I think so I wll try to give you an update.  I know a5 barrels with thread up I just don't know how the shrouds affect it.  If I remeber on the apex barrel it has a farily strait bore so I think it will proably work.  some of the kits or two piecse stuff might have some issues.

One good thing about the X7 shroud... if you open it up, there is a spacer on the front end. You can remove the spacer to allow for a larger diameter barrel.

The Apex fits without doing anything.

yeah I just got mine today.  the bore opening with the spacer is .880 and the bore opening without the spacer is .990.

I like the way the shoud comes on and off easy but it definatly impacts your barrell choices I think.  I will have to do some measuring.

How much did the apex barrel silence the marker, as compared to the oem barrel?

Haven't heard it on the A5, but on my 98C it is loud, very loud. I'd say so because it is a pretty short barrel with a set of holes about mid point...just like a Tippmann stock barrel.
