    Posted: 18 February 2007 at 12:21am

For those of you not shooting Tippmanns/Spyders and those who own very LP Tippmanns/Spyders, I would like to share my new toy with you.

After seeing an inferior but still functional design being used, I decided to make my own, Hybrid-style air compressor hookup thingy for my paintball gun. Forty dollars later,

If you want to make one like mine, here's what you need, right to left:

  • 1/4 inch male air compressor fitting. They come in different styles depending on the female fittings on your compressor hose, so get several different ones if you're uncertain.
  • Moisture/oil separator. This is very important. Mine has two 1/4 inch female outlets (well, one inlet one outlet.) Mine was 28 bucks.
  • 1/4 inch nipple. (lol nipple)
  • Fitting with 1/4 inch female x 1/2 inch male.
  • 1/2 inch coupling.
  • Fitting with 1/8 inch female x 1/2 inch male.
  • Macro elbow or straight fitting.

Make sure you teflon the threads, or it will leak like a sieve. Connect your compressor hose, connect the macro fitting to your macro, turn the compressor on to whatever psi you need (I run mine at about 70 and have no problem getting 230 fps) and start shooting. I use an old Craftsman older than I am, so don;t worry about yours not being able to keep up unless yours has a very small tank. Even those should work.

Pair this thing up with Reballs, and you will have hours of fun.

Enjoy.

It's not for my A-5. The A-5 still uses C02, and hasn't been shot since July.

Also, the section between the macro fitting and the separator can be shortened dramatically if you find the right pieces. But I had to improvise because I couldn't find a 1/4 x 1/8 fitting that would work.

its something he made so that he could attach his gun to an air compressor for low pressure power - no tanks to refill for just shooting in the back yard.

Very cool. Nicely done. 70psi will get you to 230? Not bad at all.

Crap, right when im shipping out my imp, i find out i could make this.

That would of been so much better if i knew about this months ago, i wouldve wasted alot of money on paint though.

Wow, But first off how safe is it and 2nd off could I find all that stuff - the 90* elbow at like ace. Last could my ion handle it or would it be to low of pressure

It's perfectly safe.

All of that stuff could probably be bought at Ace. The separator might not, and you'll need to get the macro fitting from a paintball store.

I've seen people use similar setups on their Ions.

I am guessing the separator was the most expensive whats it used for?

This seems like a really cool concept/ project. And my friend has a compresser.

It removes oil and water that the compressor may spit out. And that one was 26 (or 28, I can't recall) bucks.

Does the nipple come with it and do you just remove it and dump out the water and oil? Where do you find them? (the separator)

The separator is one piece (ie, just the grey part with the plastic dome attached to it.) The nipple comes separate. I bought all my stuff at Orchard Supply Hardware, but Home Depot or the like would have everything. Anyways, I'm pretty sure the filtered-out items will collect in the plastic dome, but nothing has shown up yet. I have a feeling it would take forever for any measurable gunk to accumulate. I also drain the air left in the compressor hose by pushing on the brass piece inside the black hood on top of the separator. This purges any humidity inside the dome.

Sorry I am dumb. So the separator just comes with a hole in it. And you baught the nipple separate? Do you start out at the lowest setting the compressor can go and turn it up untill you get the right volocity? Also you cant just take the compressor line off?

Sorry for the stupid questions but I really want to make one because air is expensive here.

Now I really want to make that. Too bad my guns are not low pressure. A Viewloader I might be buying for a project advertises as low pressure operation, but I highly doubt that.

It's basically this:

http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/catalog/product_info.php ?products_id=434

No fittings at all come with it; you need to buy the pipe fittings (ie, everything to the left of the separator) and the compressor nipple thing (where it attaches to the compressor hose or other female fitting.)

It depends on the gun you have. I set mine 10 psi above the LPR setting for best effect.

I don't understand you last question.

Ok I have an Ion and did you have to cut the top of the thing off for the nipple.
