im gussing shens too. but its possible to not have hit as hard as he could have. even then i dont think that it would have left an imprint. EDIT: after reading the article, it ses he broke his legs and left an imprint of his body. if he really broke his legs, he wouldnt have landed flat. Edited by Farcry0092 - 31 March 2007 at 11:15am |

Well, given the fact the ground has just begun to melt, and is still quite wet and squishy... If you couple that with the rains and such that the northern regions (Story comes from Canada) have been having... It seems to me that the ground would be soggy enough/almost mud like (As mentioned in the article) to have a good majority of "give" on impact.
And you don't have to land on your legs for them to break. Edited by *Stealth* - 31 March 2007 at 11:19am |

Yeah, but your arms and legs aren't that stiff....they would give with the ground a bit, rather than just pushing down into it like your torso would....I dunno...Funny freakin picture though, looks like something out of the Loony Toons....

Hamilton!?!... wow you live closer to me than I thought.
The best and safest way to fall (actors falling onto skinny mats in theater productions, plays etc) is on your back. He could have fallen unto his back and you can see the part that his torso hit it looks more like soft dirt (lighter shade) but his legs didn't sink in and they hit what looks like : - either a more shaded part of the picture because of the angle of the photographer. - or maybe the the ground in that area doesn't have as much give, it looks darker for sure and therefore it could have been more dried up dirt and therefore the reason why he broke his legs... seems sorta plausible if you think about it. It's possible. A longer impact time caused by the soft ground means a lesser force exerted on his body. Simple high school physics. It's sort of like how a paintball that bounces hurts more than one that breaks. Edited by Destruction - 31 March 2007 at 12:39pm |

I live 10 mins from hamilton squishey I thought you lived in belleville? and so it's said, hamilton is half an hour from the border, so we get the same weather you guys do in northern states. (if not better because of lake ontario) I'm almost tempted to see if I could find the imprint lol. Edited by carl_the_sniper - 31 March 2007 at 2:05pm |

Exactly what I thought. It all depends on how squishy the ground was--but I'm still thinking 9 stories is a little much. I don't have my physics binder at home (woot! Spring break 2007!), but I'm betting he'd be going pretty fast, and even with the ground wet, it's unlikely it would absorb enough force (although obviously his legs absorbed some of the force as well--probably hit first, but I'm betting he fell roughly horizontally). I do think it's possible, but I doubt it was from 9 stories--90+ feet (~27 meters for you Canooks)? Seems unlikely. |
