Brihard you might know a bit about this?...

Hello I was going to buy $300 worth of items (about $200 on HPA) on http://www.usmilitarygear.com/ but their policies say that if something gets lost in shipping then I lose out and that's the risk I take with International shipping. They will ship FedEx Ground to me for $25.31...

I've used UPS - they would charge massive customs and duties and delivery fees on top of the shipping cost.
Every USPS shipment to Canada (other than Global Express) doesn't give a tracking number they give an "info notice number" and that means once it leave the US there is no tracking and if it gets lost... happened to me twice, then you are screwed.

Questions for FedEx shipping:
Does FedEx charge extra duties and customs and delivery fees like UPS does?

Does FedEx actually give tracking all the way until delivery? Do they tend to lose packages like USPS?

What else should I know about FedEx?

technically you are supposed to pay shipping on all orders over $40 when coming into canada. Not all items are checked (out of the 8 things ive ordered recently, only one was charged and that's lucky)

when shipping something from america, use USPS... least shipping fees

remember, you can get away with them bending the rules a bit

get the guy to mark it worth under $40... you don't get the full insurance though

or, get him to "fix it", tell him to mark it under repairs and you don't pay shiping (not reccomended, breaking law maybe?)

I never ship fedex, I hate them usps all the way

any other questions for me, I have a fair amount of experience.

Yes I know about all the little tricks you mentioned... other than mentioning it's under repair, I didn't know about that.  I knew if you marked it as a gift it was free.

Ya but the website doesn't ship UPS or USPS to Canada they only offer FedEx shipping to Canada.

Anyway why do you hate FedEx?  Do they charge duties and customs like UPS? And should I buy a Crossfire tank somewhere else to save $200 off of that order to make the duty charges drop?

Best thing imo is to have them declare it as a gift. Not sure how it works with the us but ive ordered for 500$ worth of goods from asia and paid no customs because they write low value and gift on the box.

Also, if you get custom add 15% to your order, then convert the 200us into cdn funds, then add shipping. I believe if my math is good that you arn't saving much if at all.

From my experiance, go local! i paid 350 for my 70/45 and i pay 15% tax since iam from QC... you pay half the tax. in other words, turns out to be about 320ish for you.... but badlands has 68s for like 250cdn and they have free shipping i believe.

Ya thanks 3442, but I'm pretty sure websites aren't that willing to do this type semi-dishonest stuff for orders.

Plus if it is lost I don't think I'd get reimbursed if it was a gift... so I don't know if I'd feel safe doing that.

Also I only want a Crossfire tank, I know badlands sells Pure Energy 68/45 for 250 but my local store in town sells them for 200 CDN + 15% taxes.  But I'm pretty definite on getting Crossfire just cause that's what I want, the only thing is my local store doesn't sell them.

The gift thing only applies to... either $20,40,or 60 I can't remember.

If fedex is all they offer any you think you will be saving enough to take the risk of taxes, go for it.

Ive just never been a fan of fedex, all companies are supposed to charge duties, but they won't unless they have to.

you get reimbursed on gifts but only what uis marked on the item.

have you ever actually been to badlands in toronto? pretty big but crappy store, the people don't know what they're doing.

study your options, look around online for canadian stores... the only thing you need to ask yourself is if you are saving enough to make it worth the risk?

That's a great way to put it/sum it up.

(Although sometimes Canadian stores don't have what I need so I have to get it elsewhere).

I've ordered various items from the US and had things shipped USPS and only had 1 thing checked at customs and was charged duty.  I have also had items shipped FedEx and everything was checked by customs and was sent a bill later for taxes, shipping and various other costs.

Items marked as gifts or under $40 can still be checked and charged.  Even if there is no invoice in the box they estimate the value of an item.  You can fight with them about it but it's not worth your time.

Personal experience - I had a $10 item shipped that I bought off Ebay.  Had the box marked gift and had the invoice emailed instead of in the box.  A month later received a bill for over $60 (taxes, opening and re-sealing the box and shipping from customs to me). I was pissed but the item was worth over $100 so I still saved just not what I thought.

Premium Paintball (Toronto) sells Crossfire tanks, or talk to your local shop and see if they will special order it for you (let them worry about customs).  Buy local it's less headaches.
