Ok, I just played Woodsball Capture The Flag yesterday in a revene with a creek in the middle. It was pouring rain, meduim wind and was like 35 degrees. I couldn't hit anything my paint was just going everywhere. I have a J&J 14" and it seemed to do no better then my 11" stock barrel. Was it because of the rain and cold?

Were you using CO2? If so, that could be why.

Ha,
Pouring rain, windy, and 35 degrees? Your a trooper. Anyway, like Bird-Dog said, if you were using Co2, that is the reason why. Even if you werent, i would assume in those conditions that paintballs wouldnt be accurate. It's the weather, not you. |

Yea, CO2 thats what I use. Only 1 place in my small town that refills only CO2, no HPA, and no Nitrous. I have an air compressor and I want to get the filler head thing so I can fill HPA. Does anyone know where you can buy the filler head thing for an air compressor so I can fill HPA.

It wouldv'e been the CO2 and the fact that water was more than likely getting in the porting of the JJ.

from what I've read, theres no chance you will be able to kill a hpa tank yourself. The common home air compressors do not put out anywhere near the PSI a hpa tank needs. The compressors used for filling hpa thanks normally cost a couple grand |

O, yeah I think I did read that compressors do need high PSI.

Definitely NOT the CO2 that was causing the accuracy issue. Here comes the science!
When liquid gets on a paintball it changes the shape of the ball which causes some rather undesirable effects due to Bernouli's Law. The rain-drops, water in the barrel, or in more common cases, paint in the barrel, cling to the ball causing the air-flow against that section to slow-down, after all, there isn't an equal flow of air around the ball now that there is liquid clinging to one section. The slow-down and pile-up of air molecules against the water or paint then causes the pressure to increase against that spot and will literally push the ball the other way. Now, since the ball is spiraling and tumbling as it comes out of the barrel anyway, the added rotation on variable axises causes that "push" of higher-pressure to send the ball every-which-way. Long story short, playing in the rain sucks, physics works against you. |

First, Tallon's right, rain is the issue here, i played in a light spinkle of rain yesterday and that was making my balls go crazy (can anyone say curve ball), but as soon as it stopped, straight as an arrow...
C02 probably just added to the problems you were having. And you won't be able to fill HPA yourself, unless you shelled out about 3 or 4 grand for the compressor. If you want to fill HPA yourself, get a SCUBA tank and a fill station and you can fill the scuba tank and then fill your tanks off the scuba. |

Actually, CO2 can have an effect on Accuracy. Just probably not in this case. Velocity fluctuations caused by temperature/pressure variations common with CO2 usage will cause some shots to go high, some shots to go low. Inaccuracy pure and simple. However C02 will not introduce left and right shot variations unless your shot to shot velocity is going way up above 300fps- this can introduce all sorts of issues but, safety would be my biggest concern.
The biggest contributor to left and right variation is barrel to paint match. Too loose and the balls will wobble and even pick up spin from the side of the barrel they spend more time rubbing against, this kind of spin is very bad. Too tight, and you will break them in the barrel causing most following shots to hook wildly. Since you didn't say this was a problem, I won't discuss this aspect of it further. Now, size is a particular issue in the weather you were playing in. When it's raining, humidity is at it's highest. The balls do not even need to get raindrops on them, unless they are in an airtight container (pods are not airtight) they'll pull moisture straight outta the air. The longer they are exposed, the more they will swell. Check this out: Yesterday, out in Leesburg, VA it was very humid all day and in the afternoon it started to sprinkle. Using a fresh case of Marbs 5/5 passed the blow test with my .684 freak insert. So, I proceeded to load up all my pods, the hopper and I played my first game with wicked accuracy. But, in the second match (roughly 35min later) I quickly found that I'd get 1-3 accurate shots and then a break in the barrel. Then, life was sucking. A couple good shots then I'd have to squeegie. by the time I changed my barrel out one game before lunch, the balls had swelled to the point to where 3/5 would pass the blow test at .689 (the remaining two rolled through). I switched to that insert and I played great through the rest of the day not breaking a single ball in the next two matches (300+ shots). Towards the end of the day, I ended up breaking a couple more indicating that some were still swelling. Now, none of this matters if you have rain or anything else in the barrel as these situations will introduce even more of a problem as Tallen described. |

Ok look man rain was prolly the BIGGEST factor...but if u still want to use Co2 and ure worried about fillin a hpa on your own I highly recommend getting an x-chamber for ure gun. and y play in the rain? I'd agree ure a trooper for that too. |

I've played before with CO2 in 'just above freezing' conditions, and I have to agree, you are a trooper. Not only was I freezing my keister off, but I had all sorts of CO2 problems ... the rental marker I was using was cycling liquid, rather than gas, and I was constantly blowing snow, breaking balls ... I don't know why I remembered enjoying the feild visit (the feild sucked, IMO for other reasons) but I do, dispite my misery.

I wanna see that too... They might as well get a Halo B, put it on a wicked fast gun, and carry a couple cases of paint and some batteries for the halo onto the field with them... |
