Boy expelled for creating map based on his school

Just read about this on slashdot, searched and found nothing.  Apparently he made a map based on his school for a game.

Forget he is Chinese, forget he just just made a map of his school for his friends, this is what got me:

Originally posted by Article Article wrote:

He indicated police seized the hammer as a potential weapon.

So, again I ask, a hammer?

Sure, why not? Thats the beauty of things, anything can be a potential weapon for the pigs to accuse you of having. Especially when they dont have any real case.

“They decided he was a terroristic threat,” or "How about duck hunters? It could just be practice…" <- now thats funny.

you right "anything can be a potential weapon" behold this bolt washer i can sharpen into a deadly cutting tool of death.

dont forget the spork's there more deadly then the spoon, but then again it would be fun to use a spoon tho.

A kid in my school created a CS map resembling our school's pool, it's pretty sweet.

I'd really question the hammer statement, there's bound to be something more to it than that. I've seen cops do weird stuff, but just to confiscate a random hammer? Doubt it. I'd have to see more proof to convince me on that one.

Otherwise, this is just the product of paranoid dillusional public schools. People turn everything into maps on games like CS-when I was a kid me and my friends used to make maps of local buildings, and I'm almost positive that we tried to do the high school. Not a big deal.

The most the school should have done was to request that the map be pulled from the server, but here's the key-it was on his home computer. This is, to me, a ridiculous invasion of privacy and the parents of this kid should be outraged and working on a legal case, which I'm sure they are.

The parents are the ones who seem to have ratted him out to the cops.

I think it was his friends parents, as best I can tell from the article. The whole story is vague though.

My bad. It wasn't his parents, just someone elses. I thought it was weird when he said "The mother wasn't happy".

Yeah, I did that with serious sam. I made my house, and then the school(the two places I knew the deminsions for). But then I deleted the school one after the school shooting started. Didnt want my ass getting hauled off to jail for no reason yo.

Goodtimes.

If anything, the kid should be punished for using such crappy textures, and not turning off fullbright.

According the the NCVS http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/cvict.htm, of the reported aggravated assaults in 2002, using the most current numbers, the most commonly used weapons were blunt instruments (such as a baseball bat or hammer), fists, and feet. Firearms and knives were only used in about 12 percent of aggravated assaults.

So I do not see confiscating such a tool as too far outlandish.

"the fact remains that the student uploaded a plan for the school to a shootem’ and killem’ game that could be a practice simulation for the real thing."

My friends and I built a map of our high school for Duke 3D (dating myself here, I know)...I think all gaming geeks think having a map of their school is fun for network play...
