    Posted: 17 May 2007 at 12:17am

Now I know I'm missing something...

How do I install my 98 Custom?

I popped open the gun.

I removed the cap

I placed my stock into the caps former position

Upon trying to close.. the gun will not shut all the way! There is about 1/8 of an inch gap.  On top of the gun there is a plastic hunk that interrupts the rings.  If I sand that down.. then my stock will simply spin.  I know I'm missing something.

Thanks in advance.

Remove the oring that's on the stock.  Make sure the plastic hunk (as you call it) is perfectly vertical compared to the receiver halves when you are putting them in.

By the way you don't tell us what stock it is (I'm guessing PCS/Tapco) or even give us a picture so you don't leave us with much.

If what I said doesn't work, push harder.

The small notch on the top of the end cap goes strait up towards the rear sight. The stock should have a similar notch to make sure it is aligned correctly. Like Phil said, just keep trying it.

Quote: "the stock SHOULD have a similar notch..."

Call me stupid.. but i must have a different 98custom.. lol.

Looking at the "threads" where the stock should set in.. it looks like the following.  I'm sorry I dont have a digital camera or anything so.. old school MS-DOS type graphics are all I have to offer:
 /       I
/ O     I
 _   _  I
I I_I I_I

(END CAP HERE)
   _   _
I_I I_I I
         /
However when I look at this picture
theres no 2nd niche like on the bottom of the end cap.

Anyone understand what I'm saying? Or have I gone off the deep end? I dont see any niche.. do I have to physically file one into my tippy?

i had troubles when i first put my stock in.  the problem i ran into and this will prevent the halves from fighting properly.  the 2 nuts and bolts that hole the tank adapter on will sometimes turn to an angle.  make sure their in the correst position otherwise the sides wont fit together.

EDIT:  i may have misunderstood the post but that is the problem that i encountered when i installed 1.

Nope.  My problem deals with the ''threads'' where the endcap sits in and is replaced by the stock.  There simply is no room for that niche to sit. I'm gunna bust out some sort of file/sander hick-a-ma-bob and make one.

You need to find some way to get pictures before messing up your gun. A cell phone camera or friends camera or something. I am sure the gun is perfectly fine, it is just you are missing something.

Ok.  I can't get it to appear for some reason so click here. This is my rear.  Notice there are two rings instead of 1? In the picture above you can see below the plug you see two divets, and only one on top (so the stock stays in place).  Mine has the two divets on top AND bottom, so the stock will not fit into the noche.

Is that your stock right there? Looks like there is an O-ring there. The same stock seems to be made for the 98C and the A-5. Maybe you need to remove that to get it to fit. If that isn't it then we need a pic of your stock (a close up of the new endcap would help.

Notice the top of the stock has a solid thing going across the top.  That is a peice of the stock, not an o-ring.  There is no o-ring present.

I'm not sure if people don't understand yet, but I'm not sure else how to explain it.  On my gun, the two rings at the end run all away around my gun, with no change to them at all.  There is no o-ring that goes on my stock either.

My stock has a pattern that fits the rings inside the back of my gun, save at the very top there is a niche about 1/8th inch.  The stock cannot fit into the end of the gun because there is no room for the niche to go.  Compare the end of my tippmann with the end of the tippmann in the green pciture
