I'm Purchasing a laptop with a 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS graphics card.  Is it possible to attach another monitor and have both of them run simultaneously?

Most likely, but the ports on the lappy have more to do with connectivity.  I'm driving a 1200x800 and 1440x900 through my crappy gma950.

Any modern grapics card should support two monitors. My desktop, for isntance, has a DVI output and an SVGA output. MY laptop has an SVGA ojutput on it, and I;m running my desktop flat panel as an SVGA second monitor on my laptop right now.

In windows, go to the video settings and it should be pretty self evident how to activate a second display. It's rather useful. Watching a hockey game while playing Civ 4, for instance.

Yup, he actually said that.

Yeah, it should. If the laptop has a VGA, DVI, or S-Video port, you're good to go. If your in Windows, Right Click > Properties > Settings and you can enable the 2nd display. Quick and Easy

For a more specific and custom display set up, I'd use the Nvidia software that will come with the laptop.
