    Posted: 16 June 2007 at 8:28am

I did a search and found loose elbow threads but no too tight ones

my new 98c, I am unable to close the feed elbow ... guess I should not have flipped it open lol

any ideas, I was looking and there is no 'adjustment' short of doing a bit of material removal, I do not really want to do that if I can avoid it.  Everything looks to be in the correct locations, the feed elbow will not latch closed.  I have not disassembled the marker yet, so the front site is still on correctly

sorry all seems I got this in the wrong location, thought I was in Maint section

Sounds like your going to have to mill off some of the latch. Just take a small file and take off enough material to close it and hold secure.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, I looked over the catch and it is very tight to the side of the marker frame.  I thought I might take a bit of that off vs. where the catch engages the front site.  It is only just a smidge (for lack of non-language appropriate) off.  There is definitely a mark in the paint on the side of the marker.

Loosen the front screws, you might have them too tight so that the latch Cannot move up to engage with the feedneck.

The front screw might be too tight as stated. Push down on the front site and see if it pops right back up smoothly. I can almost assure you that the feedneck is never tight. Is the feedneck pushed correctly into the little side slots? That can affect how well it goes on.

Definitely check that as it will definitely cause the elbow to stop swiveling properly. Which part exactly is having trouble fitting?

I am going to agree with RoboCop. It is not likely that there is really a fit problem. Loosen the screws holding the shell halves together at the front of the marker...particularly the screw through the sight fixture.

I am going to upload a few pics, for show and tell.  It is not a fitment issue with the front site, it operates as it should.  It almost seems like the space where the spring is located needs to be on the other side, that is about how far off the catch is to 'catch' the front site.

If a mod could move this to the maintenance forum, that would be great.

a few pics, I hope the are big enough and small enough to suit all

Here are the pics for fitment

Elbow tight spot

side of marker paint smashed, for lack of better terms coming to mind

place I am thinking might need a file tweek

If the pics are not large enough, I can try to retake them at a higher res on the camera, let me know

keep in mind this is a brand new marker, only 30-40 shots fired so far and it has not been disassembled, I have loosened screws as recommended in this thread and nothing else

Smack the feedneck as hard as you can with your hand and see if it goes into place. other wise go ahead and file the metal piece down because that won't affect anything else than getting it to fit.

You can loosen the screws on the feedneck, then try and move the hook think around a bit, to see if that fixes it.

It wont hurt anything to take those screws out and back in. Just dont over tighten them or cross thread them.

I thought about that too, they are sleeved into the latch.  Looks like I might have to do a bit of filing ...

Here is what I am talking about, I had thought maybe I could remove a bit of plastic off the sleeves, I am not sure that is a great idea though.  They are pretty thin to start with.

I think I will call Tippmann and see if they would be willing to send me another latch part or possibly the complete feeding tube assembly, after they check it for proper fit.

Robo, there is no forcing it into place, I tried, just short of failure.

OIE ... got it, too bad I did a small amount of filing before I figured this one out ...

I could see the spring for the front site.  It was like that was when I first opened it, so I thought it was correct.  I remembered a post about tucking that spring back in so I tried that, it works just fine now.  The front screw was tightened up with the spring not in it's cavity properly.  Take a look at the pics from the first set, see how much of the nut thread is showing, that was the way the marker was from the get go ... woot, all better now

Thanks for all the input, this is one I will not soon forget ... being unfamiliar with the marker was definitely a draw-back this time for me.

I have taken it apart now and so have passed that step as well hehe

When working on your marker and troubleshooting it is better to do simple first and then go more drastic.

I probably would have caught the 'gap' at the front site, however, it was like that when I cut off the factory packaging ... weird, but it does happen, even to medical equipment.
