Rushdie knighted

Salman Rushdie, author of the Satanic Verses, is knighted.
Lots of angry people want him dead more than ever.

I guess he was knighted a little while ago, but this was the first I'd heard of it. Now the fatwa has renewed vigor. There is still a $150,000 price on his head set by a fringe group.

"Ijaz-ul-Haq, the Religious Affairs Minister, told the assembly in Islamabad that the award of the knighthood excused suicide bombing. “If somebody has to attack by strapping bombs to his body to protect the honour of the Prophet then it is justified,” he said."

Yeah, he's pretty well protected and Iran has stated that they will not enforce the fatwa.
I haven't read the book, but it's on my list. I've never read a book that would justify knighthood though.

And $150,000 is quite a bit of money...
