I don't know how many of you live within range of a Six Flags, but I know I sure won't be riding the new Superman Tower of Power ride at Six Flags St. Louis.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A teenage girl's legs were severed above the ankle while on a thrill ride at a popular amusement park on Thursday, park officials said.

The accident happened around 4:45 p.m. on the Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, said Six Flags spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg.

It is unclear at what point during the ride the girl, 13, was injured, Goldberg said. She was taken to a hospital, but there was no immediate word on her condition.

The ride lifts passengers 177 feet straight up, then drops 154 feet, reaching a speed of 54 mph, according to the park's Web site.

The ride has been shut down indefinitely while park officials investigate what caused the accident. The rest of the park remained open.

The Six Flags Over Texas isn't as dangerous as the one in the story. Supposedly, the one in Arlington, Texas was made by a different company which did things differently. I'll still ride Superman.

man, i heard that story on the news earlier. that sucks. years ago we had a woman die at Six Flags : St. Louis on the stand up roller coaster.

sometimes those people barely check the safety belts. they barely lift up. it p*sses me off when they do that.

There's one in Agawam MA I go to once in a while that has a similar ride, I'll probably still go on it. Their superman roller coaster did chuck an overweight mentally retarded guy into a chain link fence at a high rate of speed a while ago. Now they're pretty strict about checking belts and not allowing fatties on.
