Well I havent been active in these parts of the forums for ahwile, so I'm a little rusty and have a question.

My wire that connects the battery to the board has come out of the board, and I dont really feel like sodering it because the wire is already broke in one spot and held together by tape and im just tired of dealing with it. Also, my E-grip is pre-WAS board.  I'm looking to either:

  • Buy a new E-grip with the WAS board
  • Buy the drop in kit for the APE Rampage board

Now its been ahwile for me and the Search returned nothing for a simple one vs the other thread. So, what are some pros/cons of each?

I feel funny being on this end of the questions, normally I'm answering.

The Rampage is waterproof, simple to program, reliable and easy on batteries.  The WAS is none of those.  The only advantage the WAS has over the Rampage is that it has an extra tourney mode and supposedly can hit 30 BPS, but you'd need a QLoader to reach that on an A-5.  If you search a little more, you'll find a lot of WAS horror stories.  By the Rampage preinstalled here, so you don't have to buy the eGrip with WAS and then a Rampage board separately (saving you $50 or so).

EDIT: Oh wait, you said you have a grip.  Then just buy the Rampage.  You won't regret it.  I love the thing.

Just order the Rampage board.  I had a pre-WAS Egrip.  Now got an APE Rampage and couldn't be happier.

If you go to APE's site they do a pretty good (and honest) job of comparing their rampage board to the other options. I went straight to the rampage board myself and I love it so far. From all the searching I did, I don't think I've found a single person who was unhappy with this board but I have found a lot of people who were very unhappy with the WAS board. The rampage board is cheaper in your situation and the general opinion is that it is superior to the WAS board so I would go with APE.

I went to radioshack today and picked up some 9-volt connectors and resoldered a new one on there. I also shortened it up because the length of the stock one was at was the reason my original connectors got all messed up. Its a short fix but I still plan on upgrading to APE in the near future.
