My Dad and I own a both own 98c and his gun was barely used. Well when we got to a paintball place and they measured his velocity it was from 285 to 305 and it could not be over 300 and he screwed it out all the way but it still would not change, I have the same gun and mine changed and worked. So if anyone knows why this is doing this it would be great. Thanks.

You should screw it in to lower the velocity, but why it wouldn't change I dont know.

Well when I had gone to another paintballing place it was screwed out, all the way out and lost.

So did you have a velocity screw in your gun when you tried to turn it down?

Yes, it was my dads gun they were trying to turn down, mine was the one that had the missing screw.

Don't own a 98, but I've found the velocity screw on my A-5 adjusts about ±10 FPS, if that.  A rear velocity adjuster works much better because the drive spring tension makes much more of a difference in FPS output.  I switched springs to a slightly longer one and gained about 50 - 60 FPS.  So if the problem persists, I'd invest in a Maddman spring kit first b/c it's cheap and then an RVA if he needs to bump it up or down depending on conditions/performance.

Turning the velocity screw in lowers velocity. This is because screwing it in causes the screw to obstruct the path for the air and slows it down. When you screw it out, you lower the amount of obstruction.
