On the way home from Brenham (my "home" home is in Houston, but I now live in Brenham) I hit a butterfly, and it got lodged in my windshield whipers. I started feeling kinda sad for it. It was a pretty one too. Little things don't do a thing bad, just pollinate flowers and look pretty. I tried to dust it off the whipers by turning them on, but no dice. So I had to drive for about 45 minutes, a dead butterfly in my windshield whipers. When I got home, I pulled it out, and the remnants of the thorax* tried to flap what was left of the wings and fly away.

Now I'm all depressed. I tell ya, it's the simplest things that get to you...

* Torso area. It was all that was left...

I just felt like sharing a "simple things" moment. Any one else have one? Sad, happy, whatever.

That was a risky move to turn the whippers on.  They could have ended up smearing it all over

I always feel bad when I smash a butterfly on my windshield. Not other bugs though. Funny the way that works.

I like moths. I deliver the newspapers here at work in the morning and most mornings when I'm picking up the stack of papers there is a moth stuck in between two papers. Thing is, they're never dead. As soon as they're no longer sandwiched in there they take off.

I always go out of my way to ensure their safe exit from the building.

I also pick up and destroy the mouse traps they leave around the building.

I hit what I believe was my first squirrel the other day.  At first I thought I was going to miss it, then I heard the satisfying crunch under my tires.  I smiled.

I once had a rabbit come darting out of the underbrush on to the road in front me.  I swerved to miss it, however I got it anyhow.  Thing was, I only hit the back legs.  So I look in my rear view mirror, and see this cute little rabbit trying to pull itself across the road with only it's front legs.  I decided to turn around and finish the job, because to leave it like that seemed cruel.  It felt cruel even finishing the job, but it was the right thing to do...

I can relate there. When I close the windows at night I make sure their is no bugs stuck in between the screen and the window.
Also, if I see a bug in a building, I make sure to kill it because it is just going to starve there and suffer.

I killed a rabbit once. It was someone's pet. It was 11 p.m.

The older brother came out and yelled at me. He woke the parents and the mother came to my car holding said rabbit.

"Why would you do that? What will I tell my son tomorrow? He's only 9!"

Que pasa?
