Alright, this is just a quick question. I searched for it, but I couldn't really find anything because I don't know exactly... what to search for..

Basically, I had a rear velocity adjuster on my 98C for a very very long time, and I just went out and bought a new endcap, guide pin, and spring. This spring that I had looks stretched out and bent compared to the new one.
The problem is, when I shoot it with no gas or anything in it, it makes a big banging smashy kind of sound, that kind of scares me. Im not sure if this loud ass sound is the sound of my rear bolt smashing into my powertube, slowly breaking it or something. I want to shoot it like... right now, but Im kind of afraid. Does anyone know if this sound is bad?

Did you happen to put the guide pin in correctly? And the rest of the internals?

Is the new one bent? That sentence confuses me.

Sorry about that, I was in a rush.

My old spring was bent and looked stretched.

My new spring's coils are nice and close together, and very strait. It looks good.

Everything is in correctly, and it seems to function fine (I have not used gas in the new setup yet, because Im scared), BUT when i fire it without gas, the sound it creates seems a little too loud and "CLANG"ish. I was wondering if this is just common or my powertube is getting beaten to death or something.

Obviously you guys cant hear the sound in real life, but it just sounded a little too hostile for me, so I had to ask.

Really, I guess Im asking if there's a point when a spring can be too powerful and wreck your gun.

I doubt it is hurting your gun. Probably is actually working correctly again.

Yeah, you should hear a bit of a sloppy sound when the hammer hits an empty CVX valve, it's just the springs inside the valve opening and the seals being opened for the air to flow through.
<Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.>

Well, If the spring was too strong(strong enough to hurt the valve) then you would have had a real hard time putting things together and cocking it.

Your best bet is to turn the velocity screw all the way in, air it up, then chrono. If it is way above 300, your spring is too strong.

Alright, thanks a lot guys, I just needed some peace of mind. It was kind of a newbie question to ask for how long Ive had this beast, but nothing of the sort has ever happened, and I vaguely remember someone saying something about a rear bolt damaging the power tube, but it must've been some of that paintball jive that is all too common floating around the field.

Hopefully the next time I play it will be much better than the last time I played, with the gun now actually setup the not completely dumbest way possible...  Ill chrono as soon a I can.

Tighten up the valve screws on the right side just in case, and did you use oil?

Thanks, I will do that, and yes I used oil (in all the right places, yes). I shot it today (like 20 dry fires and 1 paintball... I just wanted to make sure it worked), and it seems fine. Velocity a little high, but the velocity screw is like 3 quarters out so Im fine, Ill tune it up later.
