Alright, Im kind of desperate here, as a friend of mine is selling me his HPA tank, and hes not the kind of guy, but hes actually letting me test his hpa on my gun before i shell out the big bucks, so Im trying to take advantage.
When I screw his perfectly fine almost brand new (68/4500 Crossfire HP) into my gun, I get nothing but a loud SHHH sound of the dearly departed compressed air that I payed for leaking EVERYWHERE. I lost 1000 psi in 7 seconds. Now I have 2000 psi left, and the place to fill it is far away, so Im not 'screwing' around now. HAHA! ... Im guessing the problem would be the tank adapter. I need to oil up my co2 tank threads every other use in order for it to not leak (dont worry, I wont oil the hpa), so maybe I have a crap tank adapter. But then it seems that the hpa tank just wont screw in all of the way, and it does have a lot more threads than my co2 tank. I have a very very old 98 Custom version, so maybe my tank adapter isnt made for new nitro tanks. Really, I just want to test out hpa, though IF I get the hpa, Ill get a drop, but I dont want to shell out money I do not have to, to just TEST hpa on my gun. So does anybody know a solution? Is my tank adapter too old? Im kind of screwed on this, as the dude is going to want his tank back soon, or "I bought it." And yes I searched like a madman, quiet yourself. I also have an old 98c first 42000 made. It should work fine unless the asa (tank adapter) is damaged on the inside threads.

I guess that scratches that one out. Thanks for replying... I dont know, it just wont seem to go in all the way... The threads look fine, but not the best condition. I guess maybe a small chip is screwing the whole game up.
Well, if anyone has anymore ideas that would be great, and I would also ask, would get a Smart Parts (AHHH!!) on/off Here maybe help, as I would be using a different set of threads to screw the tank into? I thought itd be good because even if I dont like nitro, I could use it for co2. I dont know, im clueless as to what to do. I guess my last solution would be to go to the shop and ask them, but its far and theyre a bunch of idiots. Edited by TheWarHam - 28 October 2007 at 6:04pm |

WOW I like that adapter I almost wish I would have seen that before I bought my CP on/off it looks like it would have worked with my existing drop.

Check the whole threaded part of the HPA tank. Look in your ASA for any thing bad.

I checked both, and they seem fine, though the asa threads seem a little screwed up, so Ill be checking the tank with my friend's 98C tomorrow.
I took about 30 pics of both and got one clear shot of the tank, which I doubt is the problem. CLICKY : ) There is one basically un-feelable knick near the oring you can see and a bigger kink at the big part, but that wouldnt do anything. If this helps you, then good, but other than that, I guess Ill check in with my friends 98C tommorow and see how it goes. Edited by TheWarHam - 28 October 2007 at 9:10pm |

the threads look fine in the pic. I'm betting you'll find it's the asa. If the asa is screwed up I would advise not forcing the tank onto it again for fear of really ruining the tank threads.

Thanks a lot for the help, as you made things a lot easier. Sadly you were only 50 percent right.
So yes, my tank adapter is broken, as I tried it on my friend's 98C and it fired like a beauty! Big problem is, though it actually screws in this time, it still leaks a little gas at a time. You can still hear a little "SSSS" from the tank adapter/tank connecting area, (And kind of feel it if you touch in between the tank adapter and tank connecty area), and you lose like 500 psi in 20 minutes. This sucks quite so. The threads look fine on the tank! Im no expert on threads, but it seems fine. Is it possible at ALL that its that the tank isnt built for the 98C's tank adapter? If im getting this tank, Im getting the bullet drop (or another drop that comes with an asa, at least), so does it matter? AYE Im so disappointed Edited by TheWarHam - 30 October 2007 at 7:18pm |

I have not heard of 1 single paintball tank that does not work with the threads of the 98c so I don't think that is a concern.
If you shell out some cash for a drop with an asa consider looking into an asa with an on/off built in. It will make putting the tank on the marker a whole lot easier and taking it off is a dream too. Good luck with your soon to be purchases. |

Yeah, the bullet drop has an on/off on it, Im sick of getting 8 people to hold
my gun while I screw in a tank as fast as possible. As for the leak, I guess Ill go the shop and ask them if something's wrong with it, its just that theyre lazy idiots... hmmm... Edited by TheWarHam - 30 October 2007 at 10:13pm |

probably just a sheared o-ring. even minute cracks/cuts in it will cause a leak. Especially if your ASA threads are out of whack, they can cut the o-ring on the tank.

Id feel like an idiot if it was just the oring, but I got a new one and will try it soon.
EDIT- Yeah I just took out like 3 paragraphs for two pictures. Can you guys tell me whats wrong with this tank (I decided making a new topic would be useless when I have HPA NOT WORKING already there). It looks like a broken burst disk and the guage... isnt in all the way? By the way, this is the soap and water test Bubbles spot 1 Bubbles spot 2 Edited by TheWarHam - 01 November 2007 at 9:16pm |

Empty the tank of all air. Using a box-wrench of the appropriate size, remove the burst disk and replace with a unified disk that has the rubber washer at the bottom. Make sure to use enough pressure to get the washer and disk to seat properly, but not so much that you over-torque the sucker and strip the head.
For the gauge, you will need an open-ended wrench of the appropriate size. Remove the gauge (again, no air in the tank) lightly wrap the threads of the gauge (once they have been cleaned with a wire brush or dental pick of residue) with teflon tape in a clockwise motion as you are looking at the back of the gauge face. This will keep the teflon tape from unraveling as you screw it back in. Now, again, using enough torque to tighten the gauge properly but not over-stress it and cause it to strip, screw the gauge back in. When satisfied that everything is in properly and tight, fill the tank slowly with HPA/N2 and check for leaks with the soap and water test. |
