Hey all, I am looking for a good carbon fiber barrel/ kit that is compatable with the A5 and I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with them, also, any advice on my future marker setup would be cool UMS tactical rail riser, TRU GLO 30mm 3- red dot sight (for crossbows), A5 (duh) Qloader w/CMS, Spec ops A5A2 stock |

Stiffi is the only company that makes decent carbon fiber barrels, I honestly wouldn't go with carbon fiber. They are too expensive for a whole kit, you can get the same performance out of any other kit, and you are going to need the weight of a traditional barrel to offset all the pointless weight that you are going to put on that marker.

As snake said, CF is a lot of money to shell out when the performance is actually less than desirable. The weight savings over aluminum is negligible and like I said, the accuracy doesn't compare to that of say, a J&J Ceramic or LAPCO Bigshot which will cost you a lot less.

I got a Switch Kit for $25. I loved that thing. I traded it off, and I'll NEVER know why. I'm still kicking myself for that...

Nope. Sly and Deadly Winds makes awesome CF barrels, some consider them better than Stiffi, including me. |

I've got a Stiffi and CP 1 piece for my Sniper II, and I favor the CP. If you're set on carbon fiber, you can probably find a cheap Stiffi on line.

32* used to make them, you can find old ones cheap. But the epoxy on most CF barrels chips fairly easily and eventually causes the tip to fray. Hence the newer ones have "tips" which keep that from happening.

Would you guys suggest that I get the 2 piece ceramic J&J or the one piece, or does it not matter, also I have heard that it is possible to get an Apex barrel sleeve off UMS for the J and J, would anyone reccomend it as basically a quiet flatline?

If you're looking for range, then yes, the J&J with UMS adapter and BT Apex tip is a great combo especially since you can turn it to (0) for close quarters and still have the accuracy of the J&J backing you up. As for the 2-piece vs one piece ceramic. It's a preference thing. I've always used 1 piece barrels as I'm not a fan of "stepped" bores.

Just know that the benefits of the j&j will only be observed when the apex is turned off.

i kind of like the lightness of CF barrels... makes the A-5 feel like a Bullpulp Config...
I heard the Deadly Winds is great.. .but thats just hear-say [so far] I have a 1-piece Stiffi 12" [691], although i've only played with it one day. it seamed to work great. yeah it's a bit expensive [$100+], but being north of the border, temperature plays a big role up here. Carbon Fiber barrels are not temperature sensitive. If CF barrels are too expensive for you.... I would go with either a Palmers Brass or a JJ Ceramic [much cheaper, and the mass cant be wrong] |

As for the 2 piece or 1 piece it really depends. The J&J kit is nice if you play at alot of different fields that are field paint only. Since they all use different paint the different bore sizes are nice. If you only use one kind of paint and it goes through a 1 piece well then just get the 1 piece and call it a day. The other nice part about the kit is the different lengths. I like switching up between 10" and 12" and even 14" if I want to go a lil longer barrel. you can also get an 8" and a 16" front piece if you really want to. It basically comes down to how and where you play mixed with personal preference.
