I want to see how the government reacts. After the south seceded that no "state" would be allowed to declare it's independance from the "union." I wonder if they'll attempt to enforce that.
On an off-note, does this mean that all the square feet data in books is wrong? |

Wikipedia says it's true.
If I was the US, I wouldn't let them. |

Its a joke. There is no way in hell the US is going to let five states just walk away. Especially after secession was deemed illegal after the war between the states. |

I agree the government probably won't let them, but they have good legal grounding with the treaties expiring.

The Confederacy had good legal ground for sucession, but did the US let them? NO. There is no way this will fly. |

I'm sorry, but as I understand it the US Army kicked their asses back in the day of the western expansion.
This means they've lost already. They can't wait 300 years and then go "Hang on, we disagree!" KBK |

They seem to have forgotten that liens may not be filed nor ownership proclaimed over any land that has not been held as property with force for a period of 25 years or more. The Lakota Indians have not, by any means, disable access to their claimed property from individuals who had subsequent claim to said property. The fact that they did not deny access to said property means that the property then undergoes Adverse Possession and the land then belongs to whoever laid claim to the land initially or any afterward who purchased or claimed the land from that point forward. As the treaties were not nullified until now, the Lakota lands that are in question would fall under US jurisdiction and said Adverse Possession laws would apply even in international courts. In short, Squatters Rights can be invoked by not only the US govt. but the people living on the land or who own deed and title to it. So, the Lakota statement has no purpose other than the gnashing of teeth.

It think it is funny that the State Dept has not issued a statement in response to this. I bet the State Dept people are sitting in their offices laughing their asses off.

I think the real question is how they would issue a politically correct statement while keeping a straight face. That is why skillet should be president. |
