Social Networking Sites

So, I'm gettin' into the whole web 2.0/social networking thing finally...I got a myspace page and a flickr account and I'm trying to get more into the youtube and digg communities. I thought about facebook too, but I don't know anyone who uses it...I always thought this stuff was kind of lame, but so many people use it that I decided to look into it more, and it looks interesting.

So, my question to you folks who already use such things is, are there any tips you can give so I can get the most out of these things? Any flickr/myspace/ect groups I should check out? Anything else? I pride myself as being at least moderately geeky, but I'm kind of a newb with this particular aspect of the web, so any tips would be great....

Oh and feel free to post myspace pages and whatnot too...

I deleted my facebook last week.

I have a facebook and a myspace...dont really use the myspace anymore though.

I never use myspace anymore, facebook all the way. There is an option to search for friends on facebook and it matches any of your buddies on your buddy list with their facebooks. And once you get a few freinds, just looks through their friends and you should see everyone you know. And don't load up you facebook with all kinds of useless apps, a few are cool, but people with like 25 make it really annoying.

Also, on myspace.

Go to your privacy settings and require that people know your last name to friend request you, and require a captcha for non friends to send you messages. That will get rid of 99% of myspace spam. Keep your profile private. There are  A LOT of freaky ass weirdos on myspace. Its like a pedophiles wet dream.

Is it an extension? I had to re-install a few weeks ago and the hidden music disappeared by itself.

Be smart about what you make publicly available dudes

I use my Facebook to look at pictures of Brihard in his uniform.  Sometimes I keep up with friends through it.

Like Whale, I mainly use my Myspace for bands.
