    Posted: 16 January 2008 at 3:51pm
I got my A-5 and I played with it the next day, then shot a little at my house, and I just don't think its right for me. (Ever get that?) Anyway, I was wondering what the best gun in the 500-600 price range is. I play woods, but i'm very careful with my guns, and the woodsball places near where I live are closequarters. I was wondering what you guys think. I am interested in electric markers. This is excluding the price of hopper and tank. Thanks!

Do you have HPA and a fast hopper already? Or do we need to figure that into the price as well?

Bob long Protege. Comes in 3 or 4 colors.
http://www.anythingxtreme.com/Bob-Long-Protege-Gen-5-Intimid ator-Paintball-Guns-P22179C1338.aspx

Halo B http://www.anythingxtreme.com/Odyssey-Halo-B-Hoppers-P8038C1 476.aspx

You will be about $50 over budget including shipping etc etc. But look around for good deals on both of them.

Doh I'm a retard and messed up the links, copy/paste.

If you're willing to go used, the possibilities are endless. '05/'06 egos are going in that range as are DM6/7's. I'd also look into '05/'06 MacDev Cyborgs.

Don't fall into the same situation you did with your A-5. Go to a field/store and ask if you can try out some markers. Figure which one feels best to you, and then look up specs and stuff to make sure its also a quality marker.

How are the proteges? And how are the minis with a new board?

The Protege: It's a 'timmy. Intimidators work wonderfully, have few, if any issues, and shoot ropes. They're heavier than most current competition level markers though. Hence Long's focus on the Marq line as being the one to "keep up with the Joneses" so to speak.

The Mini: The new board is fine, no more problems like they had when they launched. For me, they're too light and off-balance even with a tank and hopper. If you have man-hands, they don't quite feel right.

Really and truly, when you get past the $500 range anymore, it's all a matter of preference and how it feels to you. They all perform well.

Tallen is right, you really have to try them.  I havent every held a gun that I have really liked before, but somehow my Impulse felt the best out of the 5 different things ive had, and many more i have shot.

I would look into the DP F8 if your looking new, used, just go on PbN, close your eyes and point at the screen, probably 4/5 guns on there are the price your looking at.

I was wondering with the Mini, in the description it says "Low Pressure" Does this mean that it needs a low pressure tank?

From what Ive heard, you dont need it, its just suggested.

Some people say, since theres no on/off, HP tanks are harder to take off for some reason.

I dont know about that, it just might be crazy people saying that.

^^^ Makes sense to me. 800 PSI =/= 400 PSI pressing against the threads.

Neither have I, but when compared to a LP output tank, it may be noticeably different/stiffer.
