Im thinking of replacing my flatline on my model 98 to a straight 18" flute. Will i loose or gain accuracy? Looking for Pros and Cons of this upgrade.

When it comes to barrels, anything more than 12"-14" is a waste of gas. Barrel length does not add accuracy. You'd be better off getting a 12" J & J Ceramic or a Lapco Bigshot. You can't beat them for their price to performance ratio. |

Agreed. I also like 14" for noise cancellation. it actually does make a difference for that. it gets the same accuracy as the 12" though. I love my J&J. I say go for that or the lapco if you want louder.

By "flute" are you referring to a specific brand that I am unaware of or did you mean a fluted (straight rifled) barrel? |

nothing really. It is on the outside if I am thinking of the same barrel. personally I say go with th J&J or lapco over it. You are talking about this fluted barrel right? Usually those ones that say sniper arent very much better than the stock barrel. It doesnt look like there is porting at all on that barrel either which effects performance. Normally, when fluting is mentioned it refers to straight (as opposed to spiral) rifling on the inside of a barrel. The flutes shown on the exterior of that barrel would be for cosmetic purposes only.
I find the advertisement amusing though: "Effective range 150 feet!" Wow, it shoots just a far as any other standard barrel does when properly chronoed. Consider a J&J or Lapco; you'll be much happier. |

I see your point, i really didnt kno what fluted meant till now lol. What about the J&J 16" ceramic? Would it really use that much more gas opposed to the 14"?

Also because the barrel is on the very furthest point of the front of the gun on an A5 16" is a far way from the tip of the gun. 16" can get in the way. For the A5 I think the best is 12". Ive actually never used my 14" on my A5.

Unless your controlling velocity by a regulator, barrel length has no effect on tippmann gas consumption. None. On other markers it's a different story. But on a stock tippmann, velocity is controlled by flow interruption, therefore gas usage is the same at any barrel length. That being said, over 16" can begin to decrease your accuracy. 8"-14" will be equally accurate at the same velocity (assuming the same type and quality of barrel) whereas under 8" may not be quite as accurate. |

Fluted barrels on a paintball marker is cosmetic. Fluting helps on rifles to stabilize the harmonics (natural vibration) of a barrel, barrels that would have 55,000+ psi going through them.
