Etiquette is something that seems to be lost on most people these days. Whether it's holding the door for someone, not wearing a hat indoors, or simply the way you talk to people, our population (especially teenagers) seem to be completely incapable of being polite.
So I figured I'd post this thread to see what you personally find to be the most impolite actions that people around you take.

Here's the list I came up with off-hand:
1) Talking on a cell-phone while checking out at a store.
2) Swearing and/or using racial terms in public.
3) Wearing a hat while eating.
4) Not saying thank you when I hold a door open for you.
5) Not getting over to let people merge onto the freeway.
6) Not stopping to see if everyone's alright in a car accident.
7) Answering cell phones in movie theaters.
8) Cutting in line.

List whatever people do that's just downright rude, in your opinion.

Chewing with their mouth open. I don't care what anyone else does, but that's the most disgusting sound ever. It makes me sick to my stomach, and my roomate is awful about it.

It's not etiquette that's the problem is the lack of consideration towards everybody.

God I agree. That sound is one of the few things in this world that make me almost uncontrollably mad! It's so simple to avoid, and there's really no excuse to do it. My neighbor has a horrible habit of doing it, and since he's an older gentleman, and I do respect him, I never say anything about it. Yet it drives me up the wall!

Chewing with ones mouth open is a direct result of not having the ability to breathe through the nose, that or ignoring it outright.

A while ago, us and another family went camping. On the way home, a car came over a hill, did a barrel roll in mid air, and came inches from our car before flipping off the road. So both both pulled over (we had trailers with quads and camping stuff on it) and my dad ran to someone's house to get a fire extinguisher while my mom called 911 and my dad's friend grabbed a cooking pot off a trailer to smash the guy's window out and try and get him out. So he smashes the window, my dad puts the fire out, the cops come, the guy get out and turned out to be an illegal w/o a license. But the cops come to do an accident report, and everyone is panicked and nervous, but they are asking everyone questions, and as they are doing this, my dads friend is looking in the grass by the car for the cooking pot he smashed the window out with. The cops come over and ask him what's up, he's so nervous he doesn't even realize it and says "nothing, i'm just looking for my pot." so the cops was like excuse me, so he repeats himself, "my pot, i lost it while getting this guy out, it was my best pot, i gotta find it". he finally caught on and was like "no, no my cooking pot, i smashed his window out with it" and the cop just shook his head and said he had too much paperwork to care lol. then he started asking my dad questions, and my dad was like "i need a drink", and he's looking in the cooler on the trailer for a soda or something (he doesn't even drink), the cops were so confused. So, moral of the story: too confusing to stop lol.
Sorry for the rant, it just kind of kept going once I started lol.

I never stop at an accident, unless it has happened right in front of me, because there is usually already 5 different cars full of people there and I feel I would get in the way or make more trouble when for the people already in the accident.

elevator etiquette pisses me off.  You let people out, then you get in.  You don't run to catch the door of an elevator or ask someone to hold the door when you're a distance away at an elevator bank with 6 or even 8 elevators.

when the doors open, and someone needs to get off, you move so they can get off..

can you tell i had a job where i rode an elevator easily over 100 times a day?

also, in lecture halls.  if you sit at the end of an aisle, get up early and leave so the people in the middle of the row can leave.  likewise, if you know you're a slow test taker, don't take up the end seats so we smart kids can leave when we're done and not crawl over the obstacle course that's your backpack, jacket, purse, and whatever else you felt you needed to bring to class for a test.

In the dorm last year we only had 2 elevators for the building and it pissed me off when one guy was on the elevator and he wouldnt hold it for you.  It would take an extra 5-10 seconds just to wait but they couldnt do it.   I know this is completely different then yours because you had more elevators and a job to do but your story reminded me of this.

And I agree with the lecture hall thing.

Same thing goes for the subway. I hate it when people don't
understand basic subway etiquette.

actually, same thing for lecture halls, you let people out, you don't zerg rush into the hall before the class before you leaves to get your seat.  I've put my shoulder into a few people who try to get in the door while i'm in a line of people to get out.

that, and the classic one liner, "gotta get a good seat huh?"

also, about holding the elevator, sure, I'll do it if you're hurrying, or if i'm feeling nice, or if i'm the only one in the elevator and not holding anyone up besides myself.  I just hate people who round the corner and catch a glimpse of an open elevator door and scream "hold that for meh!!!!" while trying to hang on to their precious bag of popcorn from the vendor in the lobby, and finish a phone call with their teenage daughter who had a crisis because her boyfriend broke up with her.

in general, my exceptions are limited to:

a.) people i like
b.) cute young girls
c.) handicap people
d.) people who are close enough not to be a bother

I hate that so much. When customers come up and are chirpin on there phones I just wait until their conversation
2) Swearing and/or using racial terms in public.
I try hard never to really swear. But sometimes nothing beats a good ol four letter word. I do say jewish a lot though
3) Wearing a hat while eating.
Only when I am at a fast food restruant. My parents would beat me if I wore the hat to the dinner table
4) Not saying thank you when I hold a door open for you.
That bugs me too. If the people don't say Thank you, I still say your welcome.
5) Not getting over to let people merge onto the freeway.
meh, doesn't bother me as much as the previous ones
6) Not stopping to see if everyone's alright in a car accident.
Never really been in that situation before.
7) Answering cell phones in movie theaters.
www.watch-movies.net FTW screw over priced movie theaters. Last movie I seen in a theater was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
8) Cutting in line.
Thats when you test out how your pimp hand is feeling.

People throwing/dropping there Credit/Debt cards down on the counter instead of passing them to you.

Spitting.

When people fart around you then leave so it smells like you farted.

Thowing the money/card on the counter pisses me off a bit too. I usually do the same with their receipt if they do that to me, but am otherwise polite and courteous to them.

I think I've been a complete dick to one customer in 8 months, and he greatly deserved it. Guys who just come in cursing up a storm (at me) because they can't figure out how to pump gas crack me up.
