    Posted: 05 April 2008 at 4:11pm

I went paintballing today and my red dot sight took a hit. It just exploded infront on my eyes. Damn! Does anybody know a good brand of red dot sight? I play woodsball mostly so it has to be able to take moisture, adjustable brightness, not NCstar, and most importantly be able to take a hit without disintigrating.

What brand was it?

My BSA has taken numerous hits, including one that destroyed the front lens cover, and it still works.

I'd get an occluded dot sight.  All you need is ambient light.  No batteries needed.  Mine has taken dozens of hits with no ill effects.

You can see examples of the Armson Dot sights here:  http://www.proteamdirect.com/armsonsights.html

Mine looks like the Pro Dot Max duty.

We are all required to make fun of you now.

If you want to stay with red dots, consider BSA.  The OEG sights are very nice also.

I don't understand the NcStar comments?

NcStar's come with a clear lens cap.

I took a dead-on direct hit on my 42mm yesterday with no problems.

My friends Reddot from NcStar broke apart form recoil. He had it mounted on a Mossberg 500 12 ga he uses for Turkey hunting. He dialed it in at the range with 2 3/4" shells and then fired a few 3" mags turkey loads and it literally fell apart by the 5 shell.  My experience was with a spotters scope.  It was knocked of a shooting bench I was set up on and can no longer focus on anything beyond 50 yards.

My NcStar experience concerns two red dots.

This sight has red/green dot capability but the dots are not bright enough in full daylight.  I rectified that by adding automobile window tint to the glass piece in the front.  Additionally, the adjustment system for "sighting in" has limited range of movement and does not seem to hold position well.  I bought this one because I didn't know any better.  (So actually, I guess I can't make fun of notom6686.  What the heck, I will anyway. )

This is my other NcStar sight.  I bought this one because it came apart in my hands when I was looking at it at the shop.  (The owner's a friend and he gives me good deals anyway.  He didn't insist, and I didn't buy it until a later trip.)  A different piece had fallen off in the box by the time I got it home.  I pulled and tugged at it to see how much it would fall apart, then used super glue to reattach everything that came off.  So far it has stayed together, but I don't expect it to survive the first solid paintball hit it takes.  When that happens, I'll just scrap it for parts.

Being the r-tard that I am, I was only looking for red dots on paintball sites and paintball sections in stores. I just realized that the hubting store Le Baron just 20 min away has them as well. Good prices too. Some start at $19. Anyone know what adecent BSA will cost me?

Dude you seem to come from Montreal, I you are and are playing at Action 500. My friend did something very clever for his red dot and he did it for me as well. He cut a circular piece of clear plexiglass of about 3/8 deep. We simply put it at the front of the red dot tape with electrical tape (nobody ever noticed). Since it's clear you see through like there was nothing there and no paintballs will ever break your red dot ever again even at point blank.  range.

Si tu es de Montréal laisse moi savoir mon chum pourrait te couper un morceau de plexiglass pour une couple de $$. Achète le Red dot que tu veux sa change rien, avec le plexi c'est bullet proof!
