So as some of you may know I am VERY new to tippmanns. I picked it up off of ebay dirt cheap but beat to **edited** this thread has pics of ALMOST every step of my rebuild process(missing a few pics but not that big of a deal). I got the paint idea after looking at several guns with a 2 color fade.

All comments are welcome.

so with out further delay on with the pics:

Starting point   (had top spray brakeclean on EVERY bolt to get the grime somewhat clean):

Took apart, hmmm "tippman" looks kind of ugly:

AMF to "tippmann"(also played around with the "anodize spray paint"):

A little bit of customizing to the frame itself(shaved "tippmann", "Warning label", "pat. #" and of course any deep scratches)

All painted(can give details if wanted, just a basic black->blue fade with a metallic mist coat over the whole thing, which is why in some parts it looks silver):

Parts bonanza:

Getting the beast back together(was kind of a PITA, but still fairly easy):

FINISHED PICS!!!!!

Pic of paint, grip and rocket cock:

32* RVA:

GTA expansion kit:

Fully adjustable drop forward:

CMI barrel(Didn't feel like messing with the Flatline @ tripple the cost of the CMI and even longer....CMI is pretty long IMO @ 16"):

Total overview:

Mod list:
Smart parts grip

Rocket cock II

32* RVA

Maddog Designs spring kit

Maddog Designs Delrin strafire bolt

GTA expansion kit

Fully adjustable drop forward(not sure of brand...friend gave it to me for free)

Full SS hardware kit

CMI truflight barrel

Total cost to this point about 250 bucks including all paint/filler putty and yes, even the gun itself

FUTURE POSSIBLE MODS:

Response trigger

Cyclone feed system

16" is overkill. Looks good though.

Ya that barrel looks huge, but I like the black-blue fade.

thanks. Wanted to do something different than the traditional all black, camo or tactical looks so I looked towards the higher end speedball style makers for ideas. I guess not too many people do because I got several ?s/compliments on it when I took it to zephyr(local paintball store) yesterday. One guy didn't even know what it was at first and he worked there

I am not a fan of speedball-styled Tippmanns.

Based on the 8th picture, I'm not sure the paint job counts as a fade.  (There appears to be a pretty definite differentiation between the two colors.)

However, I really like the paint job anyway.  I think the zig-zag line where one color ends and the other begins is an attractive effect (whether you meant to do it or not).  Plus, the spot where it starts to darken again by the Rocket Cock provides an interesting "shadow" effect.

Overall; good job.

I'd love to someday buy a wrecked 98 and make a project marker.

thanks for the comments. yeah trying to do a fade with just rattle cans and the "misting" technique doesn't yield the most professional results, but I figure why spend all that money on a real paintjob by a pro when I can have that money to put towards future upgrades.

What is an E-bolt? never heard of it. I've heard of the E-trigger, but that's only compatible with ACT guns as far as I know.

e bolt was the early virson of the e trigger it has all the same speeds and modes as the e trigger and i have about 4 e bolts still wraped in my shed id tell you why but you would get all clingy

it has a nicer feel to it but you cant use a stock or rva with it, maby a stock with lots of mods

looks good.   I prefer all black markers but I am also more into the milsim look.  Looks good though especially considering the heap it was originally.  Nicely done.

Also the next thing you should do is centerfeed it.  It would look good on that and make feeding faster.

Be careful with the metal powertube and RT. I had issues with mine until I switched back to the stock powertube.
