I JUST CLEANED UP MY ORIGINAL MODEL 98 AND WENT TO USE IT. THE GUN FIRES, BUT IT DOES NOT RECOCK ITSELF? YOU HAVE SHOOT, RECOCK, SHOOT, RECOCK AFTER EACH SHOT. THAT I KNOW IS NOT NORMAL. I HAVE TAKEN IT APART, CLEAN IT, POLISH IT AND ALSO OILED IT WITH GUN OIL. CAN ANYBODY HELP OR SUGGEST WHY IT IS DOING THIS?

Is there any rust inside. How old is the gun and how long has it been sitting there. Sorry to ask, but assume the system is pressurized during this test, right?

This happened to my gun. The sear inside sometimes get worn down and needs replacing. Try to find it on the manual and replace it if you can.

Check the condition of the hammer o-ring.  It is unlikely that the sear is the problem.  A worn sear would allow multiple shots from a single trigger pull when the hammer went forward again after failing to catch.  A worn o-ring on the hammer will allow air to get past the hammer resulting in insufficient pressure to recock.

All of the above is based on the description of the problem which does not mention problems with firing/velocity.

Just out of curiosity; what type of oil (specifically) was used.

i am using gold cup lubricrant and the gun has been sitting like 5 years or more. like i said before, it is a original model 98. i have a tricked e-bolt 98 custom that i use on a regular and use the m98 as a back up. someone told me that could be the powetube valve, i changed the valve. my paintball shop told me it could be the o ring on the hammer, i changed the hammer. but marker still acts up. i understand the theory, of gas passing the o ring on the hammer. so there is not enough pressure, to recock the hammer. could the back of the powertube flared, after all these years or possible scratch on the tube causing the leak?

Check the rearmost half bolts. If theyre overly tight, they can put too much friction on the rear bolt.

The rear bolt o-ring could be swollen.  I had a similar issue with my 98C.  The o-ring gets too swollen to fit inside the power tube easily.  When it gets forced, it slows down the momentum of the bolt so much it cannot re-cock.  On rare occation. The hammer would move to hit the valve, get stuck inside the power tube, and not even fire, let alone re-cock.
