I am looking to get a faster marker but don't know much about other brands other than my tippmanns. A friend of mine that plays pro told me ion's are crap. I basically want the low down on the upper end markers. I not worried about price, b/c im not interested in buying a brand new 700 dollar gun. i plan on buying a used one at a lower price if i know what i want. but im hoping you guys will know more about them than i do. could you tell me about autocockers, shockers, timmys, vice, protos, rainmaker, impluse, egos, and any others you think would be good. (i don't even know if those were specific guns or brands! haha, help dude)

 thanks!

You don't want much do you?  You don't want to do the research yourself either.  You need to hit the paintball stores both online and otherwise.  You also should consider Paintball Review www.pbreview.com and look them up yourself.  And you can always use the mighty Search The Forum button here.

well i know but i'd rather get first hand personal opinion and i've heard that the pbreviews can be scewed. so why would an ion be bad... i could have one or i could tell the guy no, what should i do?

No you didn't, you just asked to set back and be spoon-fed information while you put forth no effort at all.  You haven't bothered doing even minimal research to get any idea what you want and you were rude to the first person who tried to help you.  Good luck on the decision thing.

Stay low, run fast, and hope that paintball doesn't hit your...

They are a classic marker thats fun to mod and such, not really a serious tourny marker.

Ion suck mainly because they are a hole for money. I would go to a proshop and ask around and maybe do a little searching these aswell as other forums. And when you are ready to buy check PbNation for good deals on used markers.

Honestly, with higher end guns, its mainly feel.  There will be different efficiencies/kick with different types too.  Like spool/poppit.

I LOVE Rainmakers, and they can be competitors. IF you know them inside and out, are willing to dump tons of money into them, and have a ready supply of parts when (not if, but when) one of the other parts crap out. I love them because they are so fun to tinker with. Not to mention, the are heavy and mechanically slow. I just keep mine pump.

personelly if i was going to buy another paintball gun, it would be an autococker. their is so many companies, making their on version of this marker. might as well get the original! their is countless upgrades for autococker and pricing is from $150 to $750. so u can buy a lower level autococker and build on it, till you are happy. my 2 cents

Hate to burst your bubble, but 'cockers are no longer being made. But yes, they are VERY good guns, if you know how to tweak them.

I thought they were still making a special cocker this year?

Jeff Orr maybe?

Only if there are any old stock left. WGP actually auctioned off the rest of their supply. 'Cockers = bye-bye for good. Sad, really.

I don't know about the SR, however. It seems too new to just ditch...

Is there any reason for this?

wait a minute, i've been out of loop for some years, but the auto cocker was one of the best semi automatic out. i remember eclipse, just made a electric trigger or handle for it and there was countless upgrades, that would work with the oldest cocker to the newest. this marker was so sweet, it could fire as fast as some full automatic guns in capable handes. it would be a shame, to stop making this marker! it would be like when they stop making camaros and firebirds, very sad.

Well it has already happened. Cockers are too high maintenance for your average paintball player today. Your average player today wants to pick up a marker and shoot it, he doesn't care how or why it works the way it does.  He just wants it to work without him having to do much PM. Autocockers do not work this way, they are a tinkerers tool not a 12 year olds plaything. So therefore they have feel out of favor in the last few years to markers like the Ion that are faster, cheaper and require less upkeep to function properly.
