I was thinking about buying a paintball pistol and I am fairly new to paintball.  Anyway, i was wondering what pistol is the most reliable for a decent price.  I was looking at the Ariakon 2.0 combat pistol and was just wondering what u guys think about that gun and if there is a better gun out there for about the same price. thanks.

Don't.

There really is not point to them at all. (as a sidearm)

They don't hold much, can't shoot fast and you'd be more accurate throwing the balls.

I'm fond of the Piranha USP.

If you do a search of this forum using the word "pistol" you'll find all multiple threads on this subject.

Paintball pistols are great if everyone else that you play with has one.  That way you could play a pistol only game which is how paintball started.  My buddy has been buying up Rapides wherever he finds them just so we could do that very thing.  I don't care for their long trigger pull so I got an Ariakon ACP 2.0 with holster and three magazines for $125 brand new.  eBay is a wonderful thing.

Pistol games can def be fun and I have played with a few people that go pistols and it is always fun.  I am fond of the ACP 2.0 for an inexpensive pisto.  The Tiberius is very nice too and I know Lapco makes and upgrade barrel for it.

They're fun even when everyone doesn't.  Pistol and pump play is not that big around here so when I use either one, I'm usually the only one and everyone else is using semis or better.  It really gets the adrenaline going.  It also makes you consider every move in advance.  For me this is a good thing as I sometimes tend to get sloppy with my tactics in the woods.

My friend's nephew who plays with us quite regularly has a horrible problem with field economics.  Being young, he's just getting out of the camping stage.  He gets bored and frustrated and will just start shooting.  I'm not sure if it's at a perceived opponent or he's trying to draw somebody in towards him.  Even when he has sombody in front of him with good cover, he'll empty his marker at him and then call himself out after he runs out of paint.  He saw my other buddy's Rapide and thought it was really cool.  He wanted to play a game with it instead of his semi.   He got a quick run-down on the pistol and was ready to take the field.  He wasn't out there 5 minutes in heavy cover when again, he empties that little pistol into a thicket.

It was funny because we all told him he had 20 shots.  That was it.  He had to be very picky with how he operated the marker.  Playing with pistols is a lot more challenging than using a semi.  You have to get closer and you just can't fling the same amount of paint.  You actually have to aim instead of walking a rope of paint towards your target.  It is a different mindset.  I started out with pumps and pistols.  I have one of each should we all get nostalgic sometime and play like in the old'n days.

Well, I'm loving my tac-9, and a tac-8 would be the best choice for sidearm use only in my opinion, but we are talking very high end and very expensive.

Look into a Zeus G2, you can probably find new ones for $150 or so, and look for packaged deals, probably run you under $200 and you'd get a holster and an extra pouch or something.

Pistols are fun to play with, but everyone will tell you the same thing:  they are hard to aim for 1-shot eliminations, and 1-shot eliminations are important considering the little ammo available to you.  Unless it is being used purely as a sidearm, or you are only engaging in close quarters/up against other people with pumps or pistols, it will be a toy for you and nothing more.  It may be fun to use, but you will not be effective with it without TONNES of practice and a lot of natural skill.  Paintball just tends to favour fast electronic semi auto markers and lots of ammo to slow markers with limited capacity.
