You could start off by reading this:

http://www.tippmann.com/forum/wwf77a/forum_posts.asp?TID=619 29&PN=1 for upgrades and as for a 98 or and a5 it depends if you are going to get a firepower upgrade and if you like the cyclone or not. You could also check out soome reviews at www.pbreview.com

If you like milsim your best choice would probably be an a5, unless you plan on making parts yourself then it wouldn't really matter.

Also I didn't notice this the first time, but you said you will probably snipe. There is no sniping in paintball, except for some scenario games where they use the sniper card, but that doesn't matter what paintball gun you have.

Yeah, there is no such thing as a sniper in paintball.

If you choose to dispute this fact, put on your flame retardant suit.

I suggest the A5.  Internally the 2 are very similar.  The A5 is my personal prefference after owning both.  It comes with the cyclone so there is no need for ACT.  The A5 was also easier to care for imo.  not really sure why i just really didnt like field stripping the 98 for some reason. Really it comes down to which one feels the best for you.

I voted for the 98C Platinum even though I have an A-5.  I have been fascinated by the introduction of ACT in the 98 designs, but it wasn't enough for me to pick one up.  Now that Tippmann has modified the body to make field stripping easier, I'm seriously considering picking one up.

Also, if your into Mil Sim, I would go for the ALpha Black, it's a 98C with an M4 body. Between the A5 and 98C, I like the 98C a lot and never have a problem with it. Some have problems with the cyclones on the A5's. If you want single shot, I would go with the 98C, full auto or burst, I'd go with the A5.

I suggest the A5. I own two. By far it is the easiest marker to field strip. They're almost unbreakable and everyone has parts for them.

The A5 is def a workhorse.  If you are getting a flatline I prefer the A5 flatline (not having used the new one for the new platinum) .  I did use the old flatline on the 98c.  Plus if you decide to put a cyclone on the 98 then the cost goes to just as much (maybe more) than an a5
