I've been playing woodsball for years with my 98 Custom and loved every minute of it, but I think it's time for an upgrade. I can't really decide if I wanna buy an A5 or an X7. I've asked around for opinions and the only major issue I've read is about the X7's weight. I use remote for my 98 Custom to get rid of the tank weight. The only real upgrades i'm looking to do are adding a double trigger and a new barrel, maybe a dot sight at some point. Any opinions on which gun would work out better? Thanks for the help.

Well, first you have to ask yourself: why do I want to upgrade?
Truth be told, the A-5, 98C and X7 are similar, if not identical, internally. What this means, is by spending another $200+ on a new marker, you'd pretty much only be getting different looks and a Cyclone. Considering the Cyclone is a $60 98C upgrade... But if you still want a new marker, I'm personally partial to the A-5, but, to be honest, I've never been a big MilSim fan. |

I faced the exact situation about a month ago. I have a nice milsim M4 98Custom which I've played with since 95. I was looking at the X7 and A5 and came to the conclusion to stick with my 98C and upgrade it for less. I couldn't justify the money for a X7 and the A5 is too close in looks and performance to the 98C. I never had one problem with my 98C, so I'm sticking with it. Spend your money on something else or get a few upgrades for your 98C, like the cyclone or e-grip.

I thought the model 98 came out in 1998 you must have meant 2005 So why not look into the Smart Parts SP-1 ( not the SP8 wich is a bit over priced and cracks) this is believed to be better than the 98c and is about $10 more but if you consider the upgrades you would need for the 98c to match it is is a great deal $150. Will run on CO2 or HPA will not chop( have heard of chops with a warp feed) has select fire built in semi, 3 shot burst and full auto. Has a modern mil sim look. I plan on getting one next month. |

chaibill,
You've tried to talk people into buying an SP1 in four separate threads, yet you admit . . .
. . . in this thread that you don't even own one. Suggesting a marker based on a good experience with it is one thing; suggesting it based on what you read in the advertising copy is a different matter entirely. You should probably quit pimpin' for SP until you have actually purchased/used the marker in question. I am including links to the other threads in question and am also going to paste this post in every thread as a "heads-up" to those who may be mislead into thinking your advice is based on experience. Need Advice for 98 I need help plz help i need advice on a good gun |

def just upgrade the 98c. You could always go withe either the cyclone or you could centerfeed and get a faster hopper. really either of those is the bes way to go (Iprefer the cyclone). But again it is your call and what you want to do.

either get an e trigger, a flatline, and a cyclone on ur 98c ,or get a a5 with a
16 inch barrel. if ur into milsim right outa the box get a x7. (personaly i dont like the milsim of the a5, but the reliability. u could run it over with a train and it wouldnt break!) also correct me if im wrong but ive heard the x7 is a waste because people say its just an a5 with some new looks for a hefty-er price |

Out of curiosity, what did you hear about the weight? I was just at an event this weekend and was checking out an X7 with a commando buttstock and other add ons and found it to be surprisingly light. I would almost say it was lighter than my 98. My only complaint about the feel of it, was the grip felt really small. I can understand wanting to get a new toy and if you have the money, go for it. It may not be practical, but than again what part of running around in the woods like a big kid spraying other people with paint is? If you really like the X7, check out Ebay or PBNation and look for a used one. I have seen some really good deals like an X7 with E-grip for around $300 or less. Same goes with the A-5. And to be fair, I have not fired either the A-5 or X-7, but offering my opinion. Edited by oldpbnoob - 07 May 2008 at 1:02pm |

Tippmanns are grwat guns and any of them would be great for woodsball. If you have the 98 you may just want to keep it if you like the performance of it. In the end you can spend more or less on any action taken. |

Ain't really gunna be much different than a Tippmann, either. Just wondering, why are you limiting yourself to Tippmanns and blowbacks in general? |

If I were you, I'd upgrade to a mid-high range speedball gun depending on your money situation. They're going to be much better guns than any tippmann.

I agree with both brglotus and thejudge that you could just go even further with your 98. I mean, upgrading something you already have is gonna be cheaper than upgrading a marker you still gotta buy, right?
Let's attempt to inspire you some shall we? Me back in '02. NOOBTASTIC! You know what a 98 looks like. Of course, after a while everyone gets upgrades. My rig right around '02-3. ![]()
Same rig with some sexXxay upgrades, SHWING! Mechanically, it's fully upgraded for now, but I do have a couple of asthetic/funtional pieces to add; the new "waffle" AK mag which is otw and two more Tiberius Arms picatinny rails on the handguard. I like my stuff to be different from the next guy and NOBODY has the exact mod as I, nor anything even remotely close.....but there will be. Behold the original.
Introducing, the"techie AK-47 ASSAULT"!
So you see? Much can be done to what you have. Comb the internet, check out other people's rigs and see what's the latest and greatest over at your local Paintball Shop. Ups that'll knock your boots off are out there and waiting for you. Stick with your 98 bro.
