I swapped cars with my brother and now no longer have any way of hooking up my ipod to my car speakers so I'm looking into getting an FM transmitters. Anyone use any of these with good or bad results or if there is a better way to hook my ipod up to my car please let me know, thx. |

The best way is to get an aftermarket stereo with an auxiliary input.
My XM radio has a built in FM modulator, and it works well. |

The car I have already has an aftermarket radio but does not have an aux input like I use to have. I would rather not spend another $130 for a new radio if I don't have to. Any this stero lacks the tape deck or else I would be using my ghetto tape rig :-) |

I saw in my Crutchfield catalog a few days back that a few companies have released an adapter that plugs in between the antenna and the stereo, so you don't have to have an auxiliary input on your stereo. They were kind of pricey, but cheaper than buying a new stereo. I would assume there is an "on/off" switch which then by-passes the tuner function from frequencies coming in the antenna, but since I have a FM Transmitter for my Zune, I didn't really look into it.

i had an itrip for awhile. the quality wasn't great but it worked alright as long as it was tuned to an empty station, with nothing on either side of it. (i.e. 90.1 with 90.0 and 90.2 empty as well) of course this meant the station would have to be changed constantly if driving a decent distance- which was a pain.

FM transmitters are totally not worth it.
The ghetto tape thing skillet speaks of is good. Other than that I would just get a new radio with input. I bought a car, first thing I did(literally) was drive off the lot and buy a radio with the input. I suggest Alpine. |

Dont waste any time or money on FM Transmitters. Even the best, most expensive one sounds like you plugged your ipod directly into you asshole.
What type of car is it? This is what I recommend. This is the best way to hook up an ipod. Gives you the best quality sound without wasting money on a aftermarket head unit. All you need to install it is a few basic tools and 30 minutes. They generally run around $120 (atleast the Toyota one does). |

My friend has one I hadn't seen before, it's really, really picky but when you get it to not be static-ey it sounds perfect.

Two of our 3 vehicles don't have tape decks, I can imagine it's the same for many people. |

I have a monster cable and it works pretty good. Not too well in heavily populated areas with a lot of radios fighting for airwaves

Alrighty, I can't take it anymore. What kind of stereo do you have? Generally you can create an AUX input on most stereos. I still have some parts in my toolbox for older aftermarket radios that make iPod connections. Go get the model number off the radio and I'll tell you if it's possible. And to briefly educate everyone: Modulator:DOES NOT TRANSMIT WIRELESSLY! Modulators are those 'things that go between the antenna and radio' that dedicate and fm channel for (generally) sat. radios. NOT recommended for iPod/MP3 connections. Transmitter: Generally the part that is BUILT in to the unit, that transmits WIRELESSLY over an FM station but DOES NOT dedicate it so the signal is crappy. No matter what the package says, thats the proper terminology. |
