my friend needs help

   He has a CP and it was having some problems so he went to take it apart and stripped the two screws securing the valve inside the powertube. so he bought a valve body and switched the internals over. It was still messing up so he sent it to the tippmann factory and they replaced some O-rings and put stronger trigger and sear springs in and it shoots fine. I was looking at his old valve body that was stripped and saw what looked like a brass washer inside of it.
My question is that can the gun even opperate without it and if it can will it damage it,  or maby tippmann put the washer thing back in it?
