I'm trying out the speedball arena, and finding it slightly more challenging, and definately a quicker paced game.

so my question is, as a newbie to speedballing guns, what is a good/great gun?  my only variable is price and that can not exceed 800 dollars.   I don't want just a basic basic gun, i'd like it to be something new, feature packed, reliable and easy to use.

any ideas or am i being too needy for a first time speedball gun buyer?

With $800, you have a LOT of options. Especially if you buy used. You'll need to buy a good air tank, so for a 68/4500, let's assume you get a new one for $170. Now you buy a top of the line hopper for $100. You still have $530 to buy a new marker. At this point, you can purchase basically any Intimidator you want, used Ego's, used Matrices, etc. I only have experience with e-'cockers, so I can't offer you any comparisons.

Oh, if you're going Smart Parts, go Shocker. Everything below that really isn't worth it.

For $800, you could start with a throw away like an ION, learn the ins and outs of an electro, and decide what you want from there, and still have the money left over for something higher end

^ Listen to him. He's wise beyond his years. Didn't even think about that. This would probably be the best way to go.

When buying a new gun, go try out the ones you like.

Once you get an ion, it'll turn into a money pit because you willwant to
upgrade it. Find a mid-end gun you really like.

Look into Dangerous Power guns like the F8 and G3/iQ.

You can pick up up'd ions for great prices on PbNation. I'd start there like Reb said. The only other smartparts worth getting is the shocker and I love mine. Also since you already are familiar with the APE rampage board, try to find an ion or shocker with one, or just get the board after you have the gun.

If I were you, I would go feel both of them.  You may not like the tinyness of the mini, and prefer the etek, or you may love it.

Heh... I went from all mech guns straight into an A4 Fly.  I took most of it apart, cleaned it and lubed it the first day with no hitches, I guess I got lucky.  Doesn't usually happen that way for me .

I'd say Reb's advice is really good.  I don't know if I'd start with an Ion because of all the hoses/wiring, but thats just me.  Learn everything about it, and move on.

Agreed except get a used ion.

The resale value is so bad that you can sell it to someone else after you are done and actually make money. (you can get a nicely kept used ion for $80-100.)

If I had $800, I wouldn't drop it on paintball. If I did want to drop that much at once, I would buy an Emag.

Definitely buy used. Be careful about it, but you can easily get a great gun for way less than a new gun.
