ION 2008 at skirmish

I'll be stuck working it unfortunately, but I am trying to get on for the beach invasion.

I don't think I could do it now because of all the nonsense going on at it. I should have gone earlier when kids didn't think it was cool to shoot others with deadly projectiles.

Well, to their credit, nobody had been that stupid in the past and they are making an attempt to address some of the complaints. They capped it at 3000 players this year (they had over 4000 last year) and did away with the bulk rates for paint and just went with a slightly lower flat-rate price. I would imagine this was done to increase the ratio of refs to players. They did catch the idiots who were shooting dangerous projectiles last year, I believe. Hopefully they've made all the refs aware of this and have them looking for it more closely this time. I'll see how this all works out and post something here if they've managed to redeem themselves as far as enforcing the rules is concerned.

Also, the game is at Skirmish in PA. I know the allied side was full when I called a few days ago but there might still be space on the German side. However, you missed pre-reg so that'll cost you.

I'll try to remember to look for you, I'll be playing on friday night. I had a friend post on a different forum to see if anybody was willing to trade ID's and some guy is selling 2 allied ID's, one of which should be mine come game day. I'll most likely be trying to sell off my german artillery ID to recover some money. Assuming all goes well, I will be playing for the allies now, haha. In any case, I'll be at the game and I'll make an attempt to say hello. If I end up with the allies then I'll be playing along with team Spetsnaz (I think that's their name, bunch of russians I'm friends with). I'll likely be walking around in digital camo with a BlackCell vest and my A5. I never did get myself a forum patch though I think I might just order one now. Enmity, what side will you play for when you aren't working? Allies?

Yeah, If i played the beach invasion, I would only be playing from game start at 12 until around 2:45, whereas now I'll be playing from 3pm until 11pm so alot more time on the field.

Well, apparently the number of players wasn't the problem when trying to prevent stupid things from happening at ION. Even when capped at 3,000 players some idiots still came in with reballs and did some seriously stupid things. I feel bad that skirmish has to have their reputation damaged by these morons because there really isn't a whole lot they can do to catch these people without seriously hindering the game to the point where it almost can't continue. I'm just astonished at how dumb people are, why do they feel the need to endanger other players like that? ANYWAY, I've been pretty forgiving in the past but player stupidity has escalated to a whole new level now and I'm seriously considering making this my last game there. If anything I might just go to the smaller games since I hear that they don't really have these problems at Stalingrad or the other less popular ones. It's a shame that people have to be so dumb, ION could have been absolutely awesome but now it's being turned into a deathmatch.

Ouch. I didn't get any nasty welts but I did see some on other people. I was shooting at 275 (close to the limit but my gun was very consistent) all weekend and there were multiple times where people were shooting at me from a distance and their shots were whizzing past me yet mine could barely bounce up to them. I have a flatline and an apex so I know what those are capable of and I'm sure these people weren't simply using one of those barrels. In fact, I could tell which shots came from a gun with one of those because at the end of the trajectory the balls just kind of float up to you. One guy that was just 10-15 feet away from me got hit from a distance by something that didn't break and he had to stop playing momentarily because it hurt so bad.

Enmity, I meant to track you down at some point this weekend but there was a lot of stuff going on so I forgot to ask around. I did get myself some forum patches though so I should be wearing one at the next event I go to. I think I'm going to talk my friends into trying a game or two at EMR, I hear they put on some good games and haven't heard anything about reball or marbles being shot on their fields. I can't imagine their prices being any steeper than skirmish.
