Hello everyone. This is my first post on this forum, but I like the look of it already.

I was using my Tippmann A5 at the weekend, when literally in the middle of a firefight, it stopped shooting balls. Gas came out, but no balls. If I pushed the level behind cyclone feed, then it would load a ball to fire, but this was required after every shot.

After the game, I checked the gun and worked out that the sprocket in the cyclone feed wasn't spinning after I fired. Someone suggested this was because of the ratchet being broke, but I opened the gun today and the ratchet was fine.

I disassembled the whole gun to clean it though, and noticed that the spring and metal washer that presses against the tombstone adapter inside the valve was missing. I don't recall ever taking it out, it just wasn't there any more. After that I reassembled the gun, screwed in my gas and fired it. The gun kept firing as though it was an automatic, as though it was failing to recock after every shot, venting all of my gas.

I have no more gas and so have been unable to test it further. What the heck is going on??

Thanks so much for any help.

It sounds to me like you were running low on gas.  As you run low on gas, there's not enough pressure to advance the ratchet on the cyclone feed system, so you won't feed balls, and eventually, the pressure gets low enough that the blow-back doesn't cock the marker, sending into "Full-auto" mode, until the tank is completely empty.  Fill your tank, or try a friends tank that has air in it, and try it again, it should work fine.

You were ruinning low on gas, in the future when you fail to index the cyclone take it as a strong hint to swap tanks. I index a couple times to keep heads down and get my tank ready. It beats the hell out of the dreaded zipper noise which tells everyone to rush you now as your marker is down. You will hnear the pop to tell you no ball feed.

you are in battle so be prepared and aware of everything around you

as near the bottom of your tank you can hear it clang and you will see your balls drop sooner. pay attention

good luck and remember mobility is life

Changes are permanaent

If it isn't just air, it still might be the ratchet.  The ratchet doesn't "break" - it just wears down slightly.  The edge of the ratchet should be completely sharp.  If it is rounded at all, this exact thing will happen.
