Well, it's been over a year since this thread and Hugo Chavez has yet to die in a "fireball" funded by evil U.S. capitalists.  He has however, according to this, continued to oppress his people.  I'm curious how the people who were such fans of him for standing up to big bad Uncle Sam feel about him now.

(It should be noted that Xteam's predictions about Chavez were very accurate.)

He's one of the last of a dying breed. I give him another 5 years before someone from his own country goes all Gavrilo Princip on his ass.

Technically, a "lame duck" in political terms is a politician who was not reelected that is serving out the remainder of his term.  Given Chavez's machinations in disqualifying most of the opposition, it is unlikely that he will become a lame duck.

I don't really see him giving up power without blood being shed.

Leaders like him only exist thanks to partisan raisin sacks (or sympathizers) who cut our intelligence services off at the knees. When we stopped wet works and started acting like 007dudleydorights we lost our edge. We also stopped punishing those that leak and spy in ways that deter leaks and spying so now it nearly impossible to do anything and maintain any level of deniability. Rendition is a good example. That should have remained secret and anyone who leaked it should have been enrolled in the program or "killed in a botched mugging". Our enemies exploit our weakness and we let them. Our intelligence services should not be held to marquess of Queensberry rules when the other guy is wearing a suicide belt. I realize that there are many examples of failures back when the CIA could act (such as Castro and Cuba) but at least they acted.

The CIA's only problem with the BOP invasion was that they didn't do enough to ensure the success of its operatives. We didn't fully understand how lacking the Cuban defense systems were and could have easily got away with parking the Missouri off the coast and pounding away at the beach-head prior to landing. Would have taken care of the moles and Castro's rather week military presence all in one fell swoop.

I am curious as to when he is going to visit Kim Jong in NK and get some nukes.  He has dealt with all of the other unsavory characters who want nothing more than to see us destroyed.

Chavez isn't stupid. He isn't going for Nukes once you join the Nuclear Club the World becomes a lonelier place. He's just throwing rocks at the big kid nobody in the world likes.

He is how ever going to update his now outdated Military Gear of US Surplus Equipment with Russian old soviet developed outdated war machines. Since he's more concentrated with his pissing match with his US Backed Colombian Neighbor.

Chavez's ego will be his down fall, Elvis.  He came here to talk smack in NYC about our president (nothing new everyone does). Give him some time, he will start buddying up to Kim Jong.  The enemy of my enemy is my friend...Columbians will wipe him from the face of the Earth without our help.
