Went to VA this am, on 1800mg Gabapentin, 10mg Vicodin, 10mg wafarin/coumadin, 50mg mezo"something" muscle relaxant, and still up most of the night and day and either bed or lounge chair bound. Did stop at SCC on way home I have a A so far in Humanities, and a A in World History to 1500, all done from home. Profs are a real help letting me do thier classes from home.
Sep 22 is second phase of this decesion process, since the Gapapentin is not working at these progressive dosages, we are looking at the spinal block or amputation options. I am stalling the VA till I am on mommas work med plan, her open enrollment is Oct1. Will get a private consult before I make final decesion. Have been to the mental health people as well as prosthetic and physical therapy for the pre briefing on whatever choice I make. One of the primary side effects of Gapapentin is mood swings and suicidal tendancies (great side effects). Like I tell em, been wounded several times, lot of pain, healed, drove on, so this is not a "fear". Just a few more years of being pain free before the ultimate "dirt nap" would be fun.
This whole couple of months has been one big (insert massive cuss word phrasing here)

Dad and Mary babysit our infant son on thursdays, and Dad is really not doing well. Based on his drugs he is not himself and is usually just sitting in his lounge chair in a daze. You that know how he was in his playing days would not recognize him anymore. I hope it is just the drugs making this mood change, he does not ride his harley, he no longer works on airsoft guns, he just sits there with his laptop and does much of nothing. He is a hardcore SOB, but I am worried.

I feel like riding his harley is a little out of the question at this point...

Stick to your guns, OS. After everything else you've seen I doubt this will keep you down for long.

lol @ oxymoron.

I know what you mean though, troop. My dad is currently taking 450mg oxy pills for his back, he takes them about 5 times a day +/- depending on how he is.  You just have to be supportive of them. Help when you can, and spend time with them. Everything will be okay.

I must point out, I think the new med-addled OS is
awesome. I shouldn't make light of the situation, but
sarge, you're fun to have around right now.

Brihard I will now revert to my drill sergeant days:
"A sarge is a mud sucking fish indiginous to the lower mississippi river valley mud flats, now troop I will ask you this and your answer will determine your fate, DO I in any way, means or form, resemble such a creature?" Bouncing my round brown against your forehead, my nose inches from yours, and the tang of redman on the breath. Loved the young troops who mistakenly called me "sarge" was a moment of fun in that caotic world of basic training/AIT.

While we are on the topic of Meds.

Hydromorph 12mg-4mg-3mg
Novo-Gabapentin 600mg
PMS Methylphenidate5mg
Singulair Montelukast sod 10mg

and something called Nabalone? or something like that.

Is that some crazy stuff or is it just me.

LOL.

We use the term up here without much trouble. Not on basic or other courses obviously, but certainly in the normal course of things most don't have
a problem with it, if you aren't on a first name basis with them...

Differant enviornment I guess. In the airborne and ranger communities down here the word sergeant was the usual introductury prefix. Sarge was limited to the peer group of sergeants out of ear shot of lower enlistment and most importantly the officer corps.
Even when an officer made this mistake he was generally ignored until the proper prefix was attached. Now how our regular line units handle this situation can be guestimated, based on several factors, but seldom after I hit E-7 was I ever addressed as "sarge", and the newb's were usuually warned about me, before they entered my office for the first time.

Another of my classic 1sg quotes when I met a newly assigned officer for the first time: "Welcome to Company B, Sir, lets go in my office and I will give you a brief on the CO and XO." The innocent officer will follow, and I will close the door. "Now sir, listen up and listen good, for the first two to three years of your career you are wearing your IQ on your hat, after that you only double your IQ. Now you will listen and learn from my NCO's so when we do go to combat I will not have to explain to your and your troops loved ones how bad a screw up you were, if I do I will feel no guilt and/or compassion as I zip you up into that bag, for hopefully the next Lieutenant they sent me will get it right. Have we reached an understanding Lieutenant?
Was fun watching thier faces, and Capt Kennedy supported my little pep-talks, and if I did not catch the new Lieutenant first, he would direct them to my office and exit closing the door behind him, OKing my introduction to the NCO corps. "Old School" NCO's a dieing breed in today's army.

Momma's here with the mail, VA has me scheduled for circulartory surgury on Sep 23, scoping and possibly extracting/clearing the "Chronic" clot under my knee. Another fun inpatient surgury, local anesthesia I hope, love watching the real time video monitors.
