Is down to $97/barrel as of this morning's trading.

Discuss.

(note: price will fluctuate from the "Brent Spot" of $97)

My theory, based on very little: The price was artificially over-inflated by speculation and hysteria, and is now being correctly adjusted by the market.

We should see some stabilization over the next couple of months.

That's part of it, but he also paid that amount because he was willing to.

I'm amused at how quickly gasoline and home heating prices skyrocketed as the price of oil shot up- but as the price of oil falls, gasoline stays stagnant, or if it does fall, its a pretty sluggish drip from where we were. I'm still paying $3.84 here, and it hasn't moved in about two weeks.

You can't tell me at this point that the high gas prices aren't at least partially influenced by oil companies looking to fatten their wallets.

There just doesn't seem to be a direct correspondence between oil prices and gasoline prices when the oil goes on a downward turn.

And I know we've had this discussion before, but contrary to popular belief, not all of us have 'options' against paying high prices for gas. YOU try living half an hour from the nearest grocery store, where 'public transportation' means picking up a hitchhiker.

See how many options you have.

Supposedly part of the reason the prices have not dropped as quickly at the pump as the barrel price has, is because the refineries did not pass on the entire costs when the prices jumped. They are now attempting to recoup their 'losses" by artifiicially keeping the pump price high.

Sounds like a load of crap to me, but that is what the media is reporting here.

Yeah, that does sound like bunk to me. What would keep them from passing on the costs when price per barrel was high? There wasn't much of a reason to.
