So I got a call earlier from my mom talking about how she was happy that she had gotten gas earlier on in the day, because gas jumped 12 cents back home today from morning to afternoon.  She also said that they are asking people to limit their purchases to 10 gallons when possible.

70's gas scare again?

Speculation on Refineries being knocked out by Ike, that's all it is. Oil prices are down below $100 now but gas wholesale prices jumped due to the fact that the bulk of our fuel refining is done on the Texas gulf-coast.

Edit:

That said, I doubt Ike will make landfall as a Cat3. Probably a strong Cat2, but not a Cat3, we've been seeing colder than normal gulf temperatures this season which means that there's less warm water to allow the storm to gain strength.

USAF, I think you might see some "gouging" cases going to the attorney general if that kind of stuff keeps up in your neck of the woods.

Couldn't you just fill up to the limit, stop the purchase then fill up again right then? My gas gauge was reading right above empty so i filled up this morning. I was also glad because the price jumped up a good bit also during the day.

The Mayor of Houston issued a stern warning against price gougers and whatnot, so I think that might be a reason gas prices stayed low at least until I filled up.

Everyone is saying it might go up as much as a dollar tonight, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Yay for prices dropping 10 cents here in the past week!

We haven't seen any increases in my area of VA.

Pfft, I can drive back and forth to work for three days after my 'Low Fuel' light comes on in my Blazer.

Gas was $3.59 here a couple of weeks ago.  Today some places have it at $3.79 while others have it at $4.49.  Said places aren't but a few miles apart too.

I thought it was illegal for gas prices to go up because of a hurricane. :P oh well.
