so i have a pecan tree that keeps dropping limbs...

there are some dead sticks on the tree (towards the end of the limbs) that have small beetle like bugs aprox 1/4" wide and 3/4" long. their lower end is about twice as long as their top end. lower end is yellow and black stripes like a bee and their front is bright red. they seem to be a wood boring insect however, they only seem to attack the dead wood. (have not found any bugs in the house, deck, or shed)

the tree has dropped 3 limbs in the past month. these limbs have ranged from 6"-8" in diameter and 20-25ft long. they have been the lower branches but look healthy for 10-15ft from the break... there was a few bugs on the far ends of the limbs but no tunnels anywhere near the fracture...

do these trees "shed" their lower limbs and grow new ones near the top? i know it looks like pine trees grow from the top and their lower limbs die off.

any knowledge on the bugs/ pecan trees?

Most hardwoods will drop their limbs occasionally, but to have limbs that large coming down means that there is probably a big problem with the tree. The insects might be a false-positive, my guess is that you've got some sort of a blight that is affecting the tree. As for the beetles/bugs, I'm not sure what they'd be, but you'd probably have a good chance of finding out if you go to a local garden center.
