I bought a pro carbine with a mask and a 12 oz tank, for 20.00.

I wanted to upgrade the stock barrel, so I found a J&J 16 inch ceramic barrel for 35.00 at our local hunting store. the guy wanted

to sell me a MUCH more expensive barrel because ( and I quote)

" ceramic is like what they make dishes out of, if the " gas" gets it

too cold it will shatter if a paintball hits it"   How tough is ceramic?

I bought the barrel, it looks good and shoots good...anybody else

been aggressively sold something?

the J&J barrel is a good choice.. best bang for the buck.  Shoots great and it self cleans after a few shots.

Never go back to that hunting store because the individual you spoke to is a complete moron, or dishonest. The "ceramic" refers to the barrel being ceramic coated. It is not made out of ceramic.

I think he just had no idea about " them paint guns". From what I have seen, the one I bought was probably priced too low to start with.

the J and J is heavily ported, and the action of the gun is about

the only thing that makes any noise,is there any way to make it quieter?

You can put noise reducing padding on the inside of the marker, but if you really want a quiet marker buy an electro with few moving parts.

My favorite aftermarket barrel is the ceramic. No lie.

The guy at the story is a complete and utter dipstick. It won't shatter, and its probably the best aftermarket barrel for the money you'll spend on it.

Are there better? Absolutely, but you'll obviously pay more.

The guy at the store is evidently a half-wit when it comes to things made of ceramic. 

I bet he would probably say the same thing about the special ops knives that the military uses that have blades that are made of 100% ceramic.  They work quite nicely and never need sharpened.

Ceramic barrels are aluminum barrels that have a micro thin film of ceramic baked onto their finish.  The ceramic is then honed to a precision finish.  It is not "extremely fragile."  Of course the ceramic will chip or scratch given the proper circumstances...but that would have to be something like an impact by something sharp or hard like another piece of metal or a rock.  Dropping it would probably scratch the ceramic.

Don't worry about the ceramic.  It is not significantly more fragile than a regular aluminum barrel that is anodized.  You will love it!!!
