Yes, you should take it apart AND I'd say you need to sand blast it or strip it of all the old paint as well. It's either that or watch as the paint peals off after just a couple of uses. The better your prep work the better the job will look and the longer it will last. If you don't, it will eventually look even worse and require even more work to prep it to do it right. Do yourself a favor and do it right the first time... |

I moved your topic to the appropriate section of the forum, where you might get some more help.
I also cleaned up some of the 'stupid' that some of the more established members who ought to know better left behind. |

remove the paint completely, sand it with some coarse sand paper to roughen it up, degrease it, use a good paint on it.thats basics but there ar entire threads on this. i suggest searching it and you mayfind some helpful views.

YOU DO NOT have to strip all paint away! many reasons not to..first paint sticks to paint better than metal (aluminum) second danger of damaging inside tube. the anodizing on the barrel can be roughed up with the common scotchpad in your moms kitchen (green). do not use sos pad or steel wool you only need to prepare surface for painting over. quik light coat of grey primer(fill the ends with 'bread' of all things so as not to get paint inside. bread wont scratch or leave sticky residue. then pick 'krylon' paint dont save a dollar buying cheapy stuff. next paint that sucker! camo is for use at distance..so dont worry bout the details on you barrel. up close who cares. try not to make perpendicular stripes or go too parellel. separate colors with at least the diameter of barrel. the rest of the weapon...yes take it apart. no paint residue on any interior parts. a thin coat of vasiline helps keep paint off then you just wipe it away.Good luck.
