GAH! I took my Buick into the shop a few days back. Transmission problems, and unfortunately, I don't have the know-how to fix that. So the mechanic said we've got a cracked transmission casing. Yipee. That sounds nice. What's the cost of repairs? $2,000.

So yeah, that means I'm broker than before, can't enter the Buick in the car show we were going to do, it's no longer safe to drive, and I think I'm just going to get an entirely new transmission. Huzzah.

My cars coming close to a cracked transmission, roads in the north sucked so I kept bottoming out, I've been lucky since moving. I'm still waiting for that day though...

What trans is in it now?
Its old, its a GM, and its RWD, so the trans is most likely the same model used in many cars.

As for what transmission I've got, it's an ST-300. I'm just gonna get a TH-350 for it. More gears and a better transmission for cheaper than the repair costs. Seems like a "no duh" to me...

Yes, the TH-350. Extremely easy to build up, and cheap too.

I'll be getting rid of the van soon enough. Will be replaced by an all white 2K4 Impala.

So wait, is the bell housing cracked ? or did the actually trans crack ?

$2,000 sounds ridiculous, so I'd say +1 on a new trans.

The report I got was simply "the casing is cracked." All I know is I'm getting my car back tomorrow...
