LOL FAT PEOPLE
Now I'm a fat kid, and I see this as the dumbest thing ever. Maybe these people "functionally disabled by obesity" should get off their obese lardbum and go walking. Maybe they should eat less? Maybe they should stop being such stupid wastes of life that make airlines only have to charge them for one seat when they take up two. You Canuckistanis should go on a rampage on obese people before this spreads to the more obese country. |

Iffy subject. A lot of the people so severely obese that it disables them suffer from glandular issues, according to my biology teacher back in HS.

I think "a lot" is misleading. Glandular problems are like the fall back excuse for every fatty in the world. Poor diet and exercise would do wonders for these people. |

While I don't agree with this, there's a lot of problems with obesity that don't stem solely from "ME HUNGY".
However, I think that a good majority of the obese just need to hit the treadmill, and stop eating so much. Go to the doctor and get that "lap band", or maybe apply for gastric bypass surgery. |

You have to be like 350+ pounds to qualify for GB surgery. Losing weight is not a hard thing to do healthily, people just need to quit being lazy asses and walk around. |

Srsly. If a tool like Jared could lose all that weight, I'm sure many other people are just as capable. |

Diet and exercise are wonderful concepts. However, they require some form of commitment.

The older you get, the harder it is to lose weight, or at least it seems that way. Back when I was in my late teens, I could drop weight pretty easily if/when I wanted to. Granted, I didnt do it the healthy way, but it was easier. As I get older, it seems harder to lose weight as my metabolism has significantly slowed. No, I am not morbidly obese, but I would love to lose around 30-40 lbs. Unfortunately, I also lack the motivation to run or exercise. Kinda hard to get motivated after completing all the days commitments like jobs, kids, etc. I do think that the "glandular problem" is pretty overused by overweight people. If you truly have a glandular problem, you should be seeing a doctor for it and getting medicated. Granted, there are people that do have glandular issues, but most just need to learn the phrase "push away from the table". |

I don't really care why someone is obese. The simple fact is they are utilizing two spaces. If I was really thirsty and wanted/needed to drink two Gatorades, I would be charged for two. If they want/need two seats, they should pay for them.
That said, I have a set of pins in my back and can barely walk after setting on a plane for any length of time; should I be given an entire row (so I can elevate my left leg) for the price of a single seat? I don't think so. People need to grow up and realize that life isn't fair. While a weighty problem such as this may not be the fault of the passenger, it is not the fault of the airline either. |

It's not so much about the seating arrangements as the fact that it physicly costs more to fire your fat arse wherever you're going. Not to mention the safety issuses of having a fat man in the aisle of a burning aircraft or heaven forbid an entire family of pie fans. My car insurance costs more because I'm a young man (It's glandular) . I accept this because I enjoy crashing cars and to continue with this passtime I must pay my insurance. Right I'm off chubby chasing! |

That is a brilliant point. There are many things that people pay more for because of reasons beyond their control. These additional costs are based on risk assessments and resources utilized. They (heavy people) should quit their whining and realize that life is unfair in many ways. (Next thing you know they will want their clothes to cost the same as smaller sizes despite the fact that extra material goes into them.) |

Honestly, I wouldn't be against mandatory weight loss for seriously overweight people. I mean people who are obese, not just people who have some extra weight lying around.
It would probably wipe out McDonald's though. |

I would be against that. They have a right to get fat and die if they want. They do not have a right to expect the rest of us to subsidize it. |

Mack, we probably confiscate enough meth that every fat chick in this country could be a toothless Britney Spears with a gaunt neck in less than a week. Do it for the fattycakes, show you care. |

has any one sat next to an obese man/woman (the kind who spills over into your chair) for a 5 hour flight, a red eye flight? This has happened to me, alot. And what gets me is that the person gives you an attitude because they are over weight and disrupting you. Make them take the extra seat and charge them.

IMO, I feel that the Government should do some form of a social reform program for the obese. Not free food, but strongly encourage exercise. Free gym memberships?
People just need a kick in the arse to lose weight. I had to lift/run for preseason lacrosse and I felt GREAT, but would I have done it if I didn't have to? no. |

I just don't see how some people can live with themselves. I realize everyone is different, but when you get that obese ones health is called into question...
Is it just me, but anytime I even think I'm starting to put on much dirty weight I alter my diet to slim up... I'm sick of everyone saying they're too busy to help themselves. Some people work 12 hour days and still go to the gym. I'm sick of lack of discipline in this country being rewarded... |
