So I'll consider myself "new" I guess.
Anyway, I'm thinking of getting the Alpha Black Tactical w/ E-Grip. From all the reviews I've read about the ABT, I haven't heard anything bad. I'm looking at getting back into paintballing, and need to upgrade from my lame Spyder, haha (the thing had a weld down the middle of the stock barrel.. worst gun ever). First, I'm just looking at playing regular old paintball, no speedball or anything for now... so would the E-Grip be necessary/is it worth the extra money? Second, I need to know what upgrades to get. I don't want to spend over $400 for my whole setup if possible. I do need a new mask (which should be only $20 for a basic thermal). But as far as the gun setup goes, I was thinking of getting a remote line to connect to a N2 tank.. but I need to know if the 48ci is worth it (like I said, no speedball, and I'm not really a spray and pray type of player, more of a sneaky sniper type). Also, is the Invert Reloader 2 good with the ABT, or is the cyclone feeder THAT much better, because I've read horror storries of it chopping balls like crazy. And next should I get a vest or a harness to haul around my tank? Lastly, where should I order from? I'm looking at actionvillage, because they have free shipping (always nice) and they have some package deals for the hopper/N2 and what not. Let me know! |

I'm assuming you are referring to a 48 cu in/3000 psi tank. If that is the case you are looking at probably a little more than 400 shots per tank fill. If that fits your play style and you have access to air fills between games, then it should be fine.

While the ABT is a great marker, IMO it is limited. I say this mainly because I have found that my style of play has changed from when I first started. It seems like a lot of players do. When I started, I was super gung ho on having everything look milsim and added stocks and magazines and other crap onto my marker that in the end made it a huge bulky paperweight. My original 98 ended up so laden with crap that I finally just sold it. At a huge loss. I have two A-5's with tons of add ons, that see very little field time anymore. In order to finally start using one of them more often, I took the stock back off and started running it with tank on. If find remotes etc. to be too constricting especially depending on the type of play. They become cumbersome if you are having to switch sides, I.e shooting out of the left side of a bunker, tree etc.
I guess my point in this rambling is that you may be best off with getting the most basic marker you can to start without going down the road of tons of upgrades. Get a good mask and get some playing time back in. Make a deal with yourself not to dump too much money into upgrades before you have realized how you like to play and what you really need.

My first gun was a 98, it was ok, but then I got an A-5. I love it. I put an apex barrel on it, and a few little add ons. (core scope, camo tape, and lighting rod) and it is perfect, small enough to fit around trees and light enough to carry all day without feeling it. I shoot plenty of paint with the stock semi auto... etrigger, or response and I would be spending too much on paint...
Here is a helmet cam video I shot this weekend. I ran out of paint...
